Webster Wins Sixth Consecutive SLIAC All-Sports Trophy

ST. LOUIS – For the sixth consecutive year, and the 10th time since the award’s inception in 1999, Webster University has captured the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) All-Sports Trophy.  The Gorloks amassed 92 points in 12 sports, an average of 7.67 points per sport, topping runner-up Greenville College.

The SLIAC All-Sports Championship Trophy is determined by awarding points based on each schools finish in the Conference’s 13 sports, earning nine points for a first-place finish, eight points for a second-place finish, etc.  Teams finishing tied split the points for the tied spot and the spot(s) immediately following (two teams finishing tied for third receives 6.5 – seven points for third-place and six points for fourth-place).

Webster won the Conference title in four sports – baseball, softball, volleyball and women's tennis. The Gorloks also finished second in men’s tennis, men's soccer, women's soccer and tied for second in women's basketball.

Greenville earned two Conference titles, and totaled 75.5 points in 11 sports.  The Panthers won the men's soccer and women’s cross country titles outright and took second place in men's cross country, women's tennis and baseball.

Six of the SLIAC’s nine members won Conference titles in at least one sport. Fontbonne University, which finished third in the SLIAC All-Sports Trophy (6.46 average points), won titles in men's cross country and women's basketball. Westminster College captured the men's tennis and men's basketball Championships to finish fifth (5.08 average points) in the All-Sports standings. Principia College finished sixth in the All-Sports standings (4.77 average points) behind a Conference title in women’s soccer. Blackburn College finished eighth (3.39 average points) in the All-Sports standings with the men's golf Championship.

SLIAC newcomer Spalding University finished fourth in the All-Sports Trophy standings (5.60 average points). The Golden Eagles did not win any Conference Championships, but they did place second in volleyball and men's golf. They also finished in fifth place or better in seven other sports.
