SLIAC Announces March 7-13 Players of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the spring sports players of the week for the week of March 7-13.

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Webster University's David Mueller, a junior from Webster Groves, Mo. (Westminster Christian Academy), has been named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 7-13.

Mueller, a 6-4 right-handed pitcher, started the season 2-0 on the mound, as the Gorloks went 6-1 at the Central Florida Invitational. Mueller allowed only three earned runs for a 1.76 ERA in 15.1 innings of work. He also struck out 13 batters.

Mueller recorded five strikeouts and gave up two earned runs and two walks in 8.1 innings pitched in his first game against Aurora University. He picked up the win as Webster claimed the 6-4 victory. Mueller added eight strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work, while allowing only two walks and one earned run in an 8-1 win versus Northland College.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Spalding University's Kyle Just, a junior from Louisville, Ky. (St. Xavier), has been named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 7-13.

Just, a third baseman, hit .900 (9-for-10) in three games played last week, while also tallying six runs scored, two triples, one double, one home run and one RBI. He went 2-for-3 with one run scored and two stolen bases in Spalding's 1-0 shutout versus Earlham College. Just then went a perfect 4-for-4 with one double and one home run in a 4-3 victory against Framingham State. He finished the week with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate, including two triples and four runs scored, as the Golden Eagles defeated Salem State 14-7.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Blackburn College's Grace Young, a senior from Millstadt, Ill. (Belleville West), has been named the SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 7-13.

Young, an outfielder, went 6-for-13 at the plate for a .462 batting average in four games played last week. She also recorded nine runs, eight RBI, three home runs and one double, while going 5-of-5 in stolen base attempts.

Young scored the lone run for Blackburn in a 9-1 loss in the first game of a double header against Hanover College. She went 2-for-3 a the plate with a double and solo home run. In game two, Young again hit the long ball, finishing 1-for-3 at the plate with four RBI, as the Beavers went on to win 11-10.

Young tallied two RBI, one hit and one stolen base in an 11-10 victory over Franklin College. She hit her third home run of the week and finished 2-for-3 at the plate in a 12-4 loss in game two of the double header with Franklin.

MEN'S GOLF
Webster University's Kaleb Kessler, a freshman from Sparta, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Golfer of the week for the week of March 7-13.

Kessler placed fifth at the 2011 PGA Invitational in Port St. Lucie, Fla., while helping lead the Gorloks to a third place finish in a seven team field dominated by NCAA Division I and II schools. Kessler battled through tough weather conditions the first day and posted a 78. He shaved three strokes off in the second round to shoot a 75 and finish with a 153 total.

Webster shot a low round 310 on day two and was just one shot out of second place with a 634 total for the two-day event. The Gorloks finished eight strokes behind University of Detroit-Mercy in first place.
