Greenville Sweeps First Track & Field Performer of the Week Honors

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the spring sports players of the week for the week of March 21-27.

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Spalding University's Tyler Brown, a freshman from Joliet, Ill. (Joliet West), has been named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 21-27. It marks the second time this season that he has earned the honor.

Brown, a 5-7 left-handed pitcher, threw a complete game shutout in the Golden Eagles conference opener versus Principia College. He struck out a total of 10 batters and allowed only four hits as Spalding picked up the 11-0 win.

Spalding went 4-1 for the week, including a three-game conference sweep against Principia.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Spalding University's Kyle Barbee, a freshman from Hopkinsville, Ky. (University Heights), has been named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 21-27.

Barbee, a 5-10 designated hitter/third baseman, went 10-for-12 at the plate for a .833 batting average in four games played last week. He was 3-for-3 with one double, one run scored and three RBI in a 6-4 non-conference victory versus Earlham College. Barbee hit 2-for-3 at the plate in each of the Golden Eagles three conference games against Principia College. He added two RBI in the third game of the series, in which Spalding won 9-5.

Spalding went 4-1 for the week, including a three-game conference sweep versus Principia.

SOFTBALL - PITCHER
Webster University's Ashley Meagher, a sophomore from Dupo, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 21-27. This marks the second consecutive week that she has earned the honor.

Meagher, a 5-5 right-handed pitcher, threw a complete game victory (9-2) against Illinois College. She struck out a season-high eight batters, while allowing only four hits, three walks and two earned runs. The win marked Meagher's third of the season, evening her record at 3-3.

Webster was 1-1 for the week, splitting the non-conference double header with Illinois College.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Spalding University's Hannah Stucker, a freshman from Shelbyville, Ky. (Shelby County), has been named the SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 21-27.

Stucker batted .571 in two games played last week. She was 4-for-7 at the plate with one double, one home run and two runs scored. She finished 2-for-3, including a solo home run, and had two stolen bases as Spalding defeated Principia College 5-0 in conference play. The Golden Eagles completed the double header sweep of the Panthers with a 10-1 victory, as Stucker tallied two hits, including one double.

MEN'S TENNIS
Webster University's Adis Beganovic, a senior from St. Louis, Mo. (St. John the Baptist), has been named the SLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 21-27.

Benganovic went 1-1 at both #5 singles and #2 doubles for the Gorloks last week. In a 9-0 loss to NAIA 20th ranked McKendree University, Benganovic won the most games in any set, with a 6-4, 6-0 loss in singles play and an 8-5 loss in doubles play.

Benganovic turned around and posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory in singles play and an 8-2 victory in doubles play as the Gorloks defeated Maryville University (Mo.) 9-0.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Webster University's Allison Tungate, a junior from Flora, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 21-27.

Tungate won 6-1, 6-1 at the #2 singles position in a 7-2 win over Maryville University (Mo.). She also partnered with teammate Lindsay Hays for an 8-3 win at #1 doubles. After a season-opening loss to NCAA Division II University of Missouri-St. Louis, Tungate has won six straight matches, going 3-0 in both singles and doubles.

MEN'S TRACK
Greenville College's Ryan St. Hill, a freshman from Jennings, Mo., has been named the SLIAC Men's Track Performer of the Week for the week of March 21-27.

St. Hill placed fifth out of 18 runners in the 100 meter dash at the Wash. U. Mini Meet with a time of 11.53 in a race that was run in extremely cold and windy conditions. Three competitors from University of Wisconsin-Platteville placed ahead of him, along with a sprinter from Anderson College in the top spot.

MEN'S FIELD
Greenville College's Alex Wilson, a junior from Leoti, Kan. (Greeley County), has been named the SLIAC Men's Field Performer of the Week for the week of March 21-27.

Wilson claimed the top spot in the javelin throw at the Wash. U. Mini Meet with a final throw of 48.85m. He defeated 10 other competitors coming from Wheaton College, Washington U., Anderson College and University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

WOMEN'S TRACK
Greenville College's Michelle Sutton, a senior from Springport, Mich. (Jackson), has been named the SLIAC Women's Track Performer of the Week for the week of March 21-27.

Sutton placed second out of 22 runners in the 1500 meter run at the Wash. U. Mini Meet. She ran a time of 4:52.26, a little more than four seconds behind Erica Jackey from Washington U.

WOMEN'S FIELD
Greenville College's Penny Grant, a junior from Beardstown, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Women's Field Performer of the Week for the week of March 21-27.

Grant posted a first place finish in the triple jump at the Wash. U. Mini Meet. She recorded a distance of 11.22m, defeating competitors from both Wheaton College and University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Her mark was also a new Greenville record, and it was her first time competing in the event.
