Webster's Scott Repeats as Men's Golfer of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the spring sports players of the week for the week of April 4-10.

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Fontbonne University's Brad Shoenman, a senior from Denver, Colo., has been named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 4-10.

Shoenman, a 5-11 left-handed pitcher, struck out seven batters and allowed only one walk and two hits in a 10-0 victory versus Eureka College. He threw 7.0 scoreless innings to record the win.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Webster University's Cody Stevenson, a sophomore from Salem, Ill. (Centralia), has been named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 4-10.

Stevenson, a 5-8 outfielder, hit .733 (11-for-15) at the plate in four games played last week. He scored 10 runs, tallied five RBI, two doubles, two triples and one home run, while also going 7-of-7 in stolen base attempts. Stevenson had a 4-for-5 performance with four runs scored in Webster's 17-12 victory at Greenville College. He also went 3-for-3 with one double and one triple in a 21-0 win in game one of a double header at Principia.

SOFTBALL - PITCHER
Greenville College's Lindsey Schuberth, a junior from Blue Springs, Mo., has been named the SLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 4-10.

Schuberth, a 5-7 right-handed hurler, went 4-0 on the mound in four total appearances last week. In 23.0 innings of work she allowed only three earned runs for a 0.91 ERA. She also struck out a total of 17 batters, while giving up only five walks and 13 hits. Schuberth pitched three complete games, including one shutout in which she struck out nine batters en route to a 4-0 victory versus Stephens College.

Schuberth also made one relief appearance against Westminster College. She took the mound with two runners on and nobody out, as Greenville trailed by two runs. Schuberth got out of the inning and finished the game on the mound as the Panthers came from behind to win 9-8.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Greenville College's Mattie Fairchild, a freshman from Gridley, Ill. (El-Paso Gridley), has been named the SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 4-10.

Fairchild, a 5-8 shortstop, went 13-for-23 at the plate for a .565 batting average. She also added five runs, four doubles, one triple and six RBI. Fairchild went 4-for-4 with one RBI in Greenville's 4-0 win versus Stephens College. She added two hits, including one double, one triple and three RBI as the Panthers swept Stephens, 8-6, in the double header. Fairchild also tallied five hits, two doubles and two runs in two wins against Westminster College.

MEN'S GOLF
Webster University's Kyler Scott, a sophomore from Culver, Ind. (Culver Military Academy), has been named the SLIAC Men's Golfer of the Week for the week of April 4-10. This marks the second consecutive week that he has earned the honor.

Scott placed 3rd out of 17 competitors at the Gorlok Spring Invitational. In cold and windy conditions he shot a seven-over par 79 to help lead Webster to a first place finish at their own Invitational. Later in the week Scott was the top SLIAC golfer at the Big Blue Spring Classic hosted by Millikin University. He shot a two-round score of 149 (74-75) to place eighth out of 76 golfers total. Scott also helped the Gorloks to a third place finish out of 11 teams competing.

MEN'S TENNIS
Webster University's Agustin Villalba, a sophomore from Quito, Ecuador (American School), has been named the SLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of April 4-10.

Villalba posted a 3-0 record at #1 singles, 2-1 at #2 doubles and 1-0 at #1 doubles. He rallied back from a 6-7 loss in the first set versus Greenville College's Joe Newlin to win 6-4, 7-5 in the second and third sets. He also posted a 6-3, 6-1 singles victory against NCAA Division II Quincy University. Villalba and teammate Adis Beganovic defeated Greenville's #1 doubles pair 8-6 to help the Gorloks win the match 5-4. The two also posted victories at #2 doubles against Concordia Seminary and Lindenwood University-Belleville, while their only loss was an 8-6 decision at #2 doubles against Quincy University.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Principia College's Carlie Sanderude, a freshman from Ridgefield, Conn., has been named the SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of April 4-10.

Sanderude went undefeated at both #1 singles and #1 doubles last week. She defeated Greenville College's Jamie Harling, 6-2, 6-0, before defeating Westminster College's Sarah Heeter, 6-2, 6-1. Sanderude partnered with two different teammates to record doubles victories. She and Sarah Corbitt shutout Westminster's #1 doubles pair of Heeter and Megan Slayton by a score of 8-0.

MEN'S TRACK
Greenville College's Mark Mitchell, a senior from Kansas City, Mo. (Raytown), has been named the SLIAC Men's Track Performer of the Week for the week of April 4-10.

Mitchell helped the Panthers to a third place finish out of five teams, four of which were ranked at the Washington University Select Meet. He placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.00 seconds, and he finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.09 seconds. Mitchell was also part of the 4x100 team that recorded a time of 42.19 seconds to place second out of seven teams in the field. He also ran the 4x400 with a 50.24 split, as the relay team placed sixth out of 15 teams with a time of 3:24.

MEN'S FIELD
Greenville College's Jumaane Bey, a senior from Apple Valley, Calif., has been named the SLIAC Men's Field Performer of the Week for the week of April 4-10.

Bey recorded personal best records in both the long jump and triple jump at the Washington University Select Meet, which featured all ranked teams. He won the triple jump with a mark of 45'11.75". Bey also placed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 20'8". Greenville placed third out of five teams competing with a total score of 98 points.

WOMEN'S TRACK
Greenville College's Philita Johnson, a junior from East St. Louis, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Women's Track Performer of the Week for the week of April 4-10.

Johnson posted two provisional qualifying marks at the Washington University Select Meet. She ran a time of 56.30 seconds in the 400-meter to place second out of 64 runners. Her time, which ranks her second in NCAA Division III, was a personal best and also broke the Greenville school record by 1.14 seconds. Johnson was also part of the 4x100 squad that placed fourth out of seven teams competing with a time of 48.34 seconds, which is currently the 10th fastest time in NCAA Division III.

WOMEN'S FIELD
Greenville College's Kristen Schutte, a junior from Stewardson, Ill. (Stewardson-Strasburg), has been named the SLIAC Women's Field Performer of the Week for the week of April 4-10.

Schutte placed first out of 13 competitors in the javelin throw at the Washington University Select Meet. She recorded a throw of 122'10". Schutte also competed in the discus throw and hammer throw. She posted a mark of 113'08" in the discus throw to place fourth of 10. Her hammer throw mark of 122'9" earned her a seventh place finish out of 13 competitors.
