Principia's Clark, Powell Named Track Athletes of the Week for Second Consecutive Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the spring sports players of the week for the week of April 18-24.

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Fontbonne University's David Willey, a senior from St. Louis, Mo. (Trinity), has been named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 18-24.

Willey, a 5-10 left-handed hurler, threw a complete game two-hitter in a 6-1 victory versus Principia College. He tallied six strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work, while allowing only one walk. Willey also became the all-time career leader in victories in Fontbonne baseball history with the win.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Westminster College's Andrew Jett, a senior from Owensville, Mo., has been named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 18-24.

Jett, a 6-1 first baseman, hit .555 at the plate through four games last week. He went 5-for-9 with four runs scored, four RBI and two doubles, while also reaching base on balls a total of five times and one sacrifice. Jett went 2-for-3 in a 7-4 loss to Webster University. He followed that up with one double, one sacrifice and three RBI in a 14-1 victory over Blackburn College. Jett helped the Blue Jays complete the series sweep versus Blackburn with two hits, including one double and one RBI in the final two games of the series.

SOFTBALL - PITCHER
Webster University's Ashley Meagher, a sophomore from Dupo, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 18-24.

Meagher, a 5-5 right-handed pitcher, recorded two victories last week. She battled to a 7-5 win against Blackburn College, striking out eight batters in the complete game victory. Meagher followed that up with nine strikeouts in a complete game shutout versus MacMurray College. She allowed only three hits and no walks as the Gorloks won 15-0 in five innings.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Webster University's Kristie Konersmann, a freshman from High Ridge, Mo. (Northwest), has been named the SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 18-24.

Konersmann, a 5-4 second baseman, posted a .583 batting average by hitting 7-for-12 at the plate in four games played last week. She also added six RBI, nine runs scored, three doubles and two home runs as the Gorloks went undefeated at 4-0 for the week.

Konersmann went 2-for-4 in both games of a double header against Blackburn College. She tallied one double in game one, and followed that up with one double, one home run and five RBI in game two. Konersmann recorded another multi-hit game in game one on the road at MacMurray. She finished 2-for-3 at the plate with one double and a solo home run.

MEN'S TRACK
Principia College's Drew Clark, a junior from Hopkinton, Mass., has been named the SLIAC Men's Track Performer of the Week for the week of April 18-24. It marks the second consecutive week that he has earned the honor.

Clark placed first in the 800-meter run at the SIU-Edwardsville Twilight meet. He posted a time of 1:51.49, which is currently ranked third in NCAA Division III and is a provisional qualifying mark.

MEN'S FIELD
Greenville College's Josh Kuusisto, a freshman from Show Low, Ariz., has been named the SLIAC Men's Field Performer of the Week for the week of April 18-24. It marks the second consecutive week that he has earned the honor.

Kuusisto placed fifth out of 16 competitors in the hammer throw at the SIU-Edwardsville Twilight meet. He posted a mark of 149'7", almost breaking his personal best.

WOMEN'S TRACK
Principia College's Casey Powell, a sophomore from Colorado Springs, Colo., has been named the SLIAC Women's Track Performer of the Week for the week of April 18-24. It marks the second consecutive week and third time this season that she has earned the honor.

Powell broke a 28-year old school record in the 800-meter with a time of 2:20.84 at the SIU-Edwardsville Twilight meet. She placed fifth among all NCAA Division I, II and III competitors.

WOMEN'S FIELD
Webster University's Gretchen Rieger, a junior from Trenton, Ill. (Wesclin), has been named the SLIAC Women's Field Performer of the Week for the week of April 18-24.

Rieger, who was the lone NCAA DIII participant, placed first out of eight competitors in the javelin throw at the Dewey Allgood Invitational. She posted a mark of 37.16 meters, which was just shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. It marked Rieger's third, first place finish in five events this spring.
