Principia College Winner of SLIAC's First Sportsmanship Award

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced Principia College as the winner of the 2010-11 overall Sportsmanship Award. This is the first year that the award is being presented.

The Panthers finished in the top three in the team Sportsmanship Award voting in nine of the 11 sports that the College sponsors. They also won a conference-best five team Sportsmanship Awards, including baseball, women's cross country, women's soccer, softball and volleyball.

Principia and Greenville College were the lone Conference schools to appear on at least one ballot in each sport that they sponsor. Principia appeared on 53 of 94 ballots cast, and finished the year with a total of 191 points.

The SLIAC overall Sportsmanship Award is a newly created award beginning with the 2010-11 season and is based on voting from the 12 team Sportsmanship Awards. In the team Sportsmanship Award voting, each individual school votes for three schools with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis. The school with the highest point total is declared the winner of the SLIAC overall Sportsmanship Award.
