SLIAC Announces Spring Sports Players of the Week for February 27-March 4

St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Players of the Week for the week of February 27 - March 4.

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Webster University's Isaac Behme, a freshman from Harrisburg, Ill., has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of February 27-March 4.

Behme, a left-handed pitcher, made his first collegiate start and posted his first victory as Webster came away with a 4-0 win over Grinnell College. Behme allowed no runs and just one hit over eight innings, while striking out six batters. The win was also Webster's first shutout of the season.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Spalding University's Derek Ferch, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky. (St. Xavier), has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of February 27-March 4.

Ferch, a shortstop, went 6-for-7 at the plate with three doubles and two RBI in two games played last week. He hit a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI and one stolen base in a 6-2 victory in game one of a double header versus College of Mt. St. Joseph. Ferch then went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI as Spalding defeated Mt. St. Joseph 6-1 in game two.

SOFTBALL - PITCHER
Westminster College's Sarah Schneider, a sophomore from O'Fallon, Mo. (St. Dominic), has been named the Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of February 27-March 4.

Schneider tallied 14 strikeouts in her first outing of the season. In 7.0 complete innings, she only allowed one hit and gave up two walks.

Westminster went 2-0 on the week sweeping Grinnell College 7-0, 9-1 in a double header.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Greenville College's Brya Irvin, a senior from Woodlawn, Ill., has been named the Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of February 27-March 4.

Irvin, an outfielder, hit .571 at the plate, including a 1.429 slugging percentage, in two games played last week with four hits in seven at-bats. In game one of a double header versus Missouri Baptist University she had one hit. In game two Irvin went 3-for-4 with two homeruns and three RBI.

MEN'S TENNIS
Webster University's Francissco Cortez, a junior from Quincy, Ill., has been named the Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of February 27-March 4.

Cortez went 2-0 at both #1 Singles and #1 Doubles for the Gorloks last week. Cortez and teammate Diego Alarcon won both of their doubles matches 9-7. Cortez posted a 6-2, 6-3 win in singles action against Lindenwood University-Belleville. He then battled to a 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 11-9 win versus Dominican University (Ill.).

Webster defeated Lindenwood-Belleville, 6-3, and Dominican, 8-1, to improve to 7-1 overall on the year.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Principia College's Hilary Frandsen, a sophomore from St. Augustine, Fla. (Bartram Trail), has been named the Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of February 27-March 4.

Frandsen posted a 3-0 record at #2 Singles and a 2-1 record at #1 Doubles as Principia went 2-1 overall last week. In a 9-0 dual match victory over Lindenwood University-Belleville, Frandsen tallied a 6-3, 6-4 singles win and an 8-4 doubles win. She won the #2 Singles flight at the Principia Invitational, defeating University of Missouri-St. Louis' Danielle Henkel 6-2, 7-6(4), and Missouri Baptist University's Nikki Riddle 6-1, 6-3.
