SLIAC Announces Athletes of the Week for March 12-18

St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Players of the Week for the week of March 12-18.

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Principia College's Greg Ball, a senior from Orlando, Fla., has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 12-18.

Ball, a right-handed pitcher, threw two complete games last week, recorded a total of 12 strikeouts and had both of Principia's victories for the week. In 7.0 innings on the mound he struckout six batters and allowed only one hit and three walks as Principia defeated SUNY-Plattsburg, 2-1. Ball posted a 5-3 win over Defiance College, allowing three hits, one walk, two earned runs and striking out six batters.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Greenville College's Jared Massengill, a sophomore from Neoga, Ill., has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 12-18.

Massengill, a shortstop, led the Panthers on offense at the RussMatt Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla. He went 10-for-22 at the plate in seven games played for a .455 average. He also had eight RBI, three doubles and one home run. Massengill tallied at least one hit in each game for Greenville. He went 3-for-5 with one double in a 6-5 loss to Edgewood, and he also went 2-for-4 with two doubles in a 6-2 loss to Anderson (Ind.).

SOFTBALL - PITCHER
Spalding University's Rena Philpot, a senior from Lanesville, Ind. (Floyd Central), has been named the Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 12-18.

Philpot recorded two complete game victories last week, including one shutout, as the Golden Eagles went 3-1 for the week. She posted five strikeouts and gave up two hits and five walks in a 1-0 shutout versus Wilmington College (Ohio). Philpot then had seven strikeouts, five hits, zero walks and no earned runs in a 2-1 win over Franklin College (Ind.).

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Eureka College's Sara Hamilton, a senior from Washington, Ill., has been named the Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 12-18.

Hamilton, an outfielder, hit .560 (14-for-25) at the plate with two home runs and 14 RBI in eight games played last week at the National Collegiate Sports Invitational in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. Additionally, she coaxed four walks for a .621 on-base percentage and struck out only twice in 29 plate appearances. She had a pair of four-hit games on the tripe, including a 4-for-4 effort with a home run, two doubles, three runs scored and seven RBI in the Red Devils 14-3 victory over Suffolk (Mass.).

Hamilton also went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one home run in an 8-4 loss to Lycoming College. She added four hits, four RBI, four runs scored, one double and one triple in a 15-6 win versus Philadelphia Biblical.

MEN'S TENNIS
Principia College's Nate Waters, a freshman from Menlo Park, Calif. (The Principia School), has been named the Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 12-18.

Waters posted a 3-2 record in singles action last week, including 2-0 at the #4 position. He posted victories at #4 singles against Illinois Wesleyan (6-4, 6-2) and St. Scholastica (6-2, 6-2) before moving up to the #3 position for the remainder of the week. Waters went 1-2 at the #3 position, with his lone win a 6-1, 6-1 decision against the University of Dubuque.

Waters also went 2-3 in doubles action last week, playing at all three doubles positions. He and teammate Weston Kalogeridis recorded an 8-5 victory at #2 doubles against Illinois Wesleyan. Waters and teammate Andrew Rohrer also posted an 8-6 win at #3 doubles versus the University of Dubuque.

MEN'S TRACK
Principia College's Jake Meier, a junior from Middlebury, Ind., has been named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of March 12-18.

Meier posted a time of 49.01 seconds in the 400m at the Rhodes Open, giving him the fourth fastest time currently in NCAA Division III. His time was also the second fastest in school history, as placed seventh in the event behind runners from NCAA Division I programs.

WOMEN'S TRACK
Westminster College's Sarah Koestner, a sophomore from Lohman, Mo. (Russellville), has been named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of March 12-18.

Koestner placed first in the 3000-meter run at the Central Methodist Open. She posted a time of 11:04.38, eight seconds ahead of the second place runner.

WOMEN'S FIELD
Principia College's Lyssa Winslow, a freshman from Londonderry, N.H., has been named the Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of March 12-18.

Winslow set a new school record with a mark of 38.40m (126-00) in the discus throw. She placed third at the Rhodes Open, and her throw currently ranks 14th in NCAA Division III.
