Principia Grabs Five Player of the Week Honors for March 26-April 1

St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Players of the Week for the week of March 26-April 1.

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Fontbonne University's Andrew Schlereth, a junior from Affton, Mo., has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 26-April 1.

Schlereth, a 6-0 right-handed pitcher, started two games and posted two victories last week. He threw a complete game shutout as Fontbonne defeated Blackburn College 12-0. Schlereth struck out four batters and allowed only five hits and three walks in 7.0 complete innings on the mound. In a 10-2 win over Principia College Schlereth recorded five strikeouts and allowed five hits, three walks and two runs in 8.0 innings of work.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Fontbonne University's Nick Platipodis, a junior from St. Louis, Mo. (Lutheran South), has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 26-April 1.

Platipodis, a third baseman, hit .700 in the Griffins three-game series versus Principia College. He went 4-for-5 with two RBI, one double and one triple in game one. Platipodis then added three RBI's in both games two and three and had two hits, including one double in game three.

Fontbonne went 4-1 last week, sweeping Principia 17-4, 6-5, 10-2, and splitting with Blackburn 0-2, 12-0.

SOFTBALL - PITCHER
Webster University's Trisha Thompson, a sophomore from Glendale, Ariz. (Xavier Prep), has been named the Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 26-April 1.

Thompson threw a complete game no-hitter, the first for Webster since 2007, with a 1-0 victory versus Westminster College (Mo.). In 7.0 complete innings of work she recorded six strikeouts and allowed only two walks. Thompson also posted a 11-2 win over Eureka College, with six strikeouts, five hits and one earned run in 6.0 innings on the mound.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Webster University's Taylor Gibbs, a freshman from Alton, Ill., has been named the Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 26-April 1.

Gibbs helped the Gorloks to a 1-0 victory versus Westminster College (Mo.) by driving in the lone run with a single in the fifth inning. In Webster's 11-2 win at Eureka College Gibbs was in the middle of all three Gorlok scoring rallies. She homered in a three-run third, doubled in a six-run fourth and doubled in a two-run sixth. Gibbs also had two hits and one RBI in the Gorloks 5-1 win over Eureka.

MEN'S TENNIS
Principia College's Paul Sanderude, a senior from Ridgefield, Conn., has been named the Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 26-April 1.

Sanderude posted a 2-0 record at both #1 Singles and #1 Doubles last week in two conference matches. He defeated Fontbonne University's Karl Faust, 6-2, 6-1, and then battled to a three-set victory (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) against Westminster College's Tony Stephenson, which was ultimately the deciding match in Principia's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays. In doubles action Sanderude and teammate Jason Wissman won 8-4 against Fontbonne and 9-7 versus Westminster.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Principia College's Marianna Hronek, a senior from Traverse City, Mich. (Principia Upper), has been named the Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 26-April 1.

Hronek went 3-0 at both #3 Singles and #2 Doubles last week. After a 6-0, 6-1 win against Fontbonne University's Sarah Mueller in singles play, Hronek battled to two three-set victories versus both Maryville University (Mo.) and Westminster College (Mo.). She won 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 against Maryville and defeated Westminster's Lara Banner 7-5, 6-7(6), 7-5, coming from behind in all three sets.

In doubles play, Hronek and teammate Hilary Frandsen won all three of their matches 8-1, and the duo now stands at 3-0 in conference play.

MEN'S TRACK
Principia College's Drew Clark, a senior from Hopkinton, Mass., has been named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of March 26-April 1.

Clark placed fourth in the men's 1500 meter run at the Washington University (Mo.) Invitational with a time of 3:57.59. He was the top NCAA Division III finisher, and his time puts him at 14th nationally.

WOMEN'S TRACK
Principia College's Casey Powell, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., has been named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of March 26-April 1.

Powell set a new school record in the women's 1500 meter run with a time of 4:48.21 at the Washington University (Mo.) Invitational. She was the top runner from the SLIAC, and her time currently places her 40th nationally in NCAA Division III.

WOMEN'S FIELD
Principia College's Tess Rountree, a freshman from Paso Robles, Calif., has been named the Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of March 26-April 1.

Rountree placed ninth in the Heptathlon with a total of 4047 points, which places her second on Principia's all-time top 10 list. She posted a second place finish in the Shot Put with a throw of 11.07 meters and a third place finish in the High Jump with a height of 1.59 meters. She also threw a distance of 28.43 meters in the Javelin and had a distance of 4.40 meters in the Long Jump. In the track events, Rountree recorded times of 27.67 seconds (200m), 16.63 seconds (110m Hurdles) and 2:39.61 (800m).
