Baseball & Softball Players of the Week Selected for April 23-29

St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Players of the Week for the week of April 23-29.

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Webster University's Cody Hafeli, a junior from Marion, Ill., has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 23-29.

Hafeli, a left-handed pitcher, saw action in both games of a double header at Fontbonne University last week. In game one, Hafeli took the mound in relief in the fifth inning with runners on first and third, and the first batter he faced hit into a double play to get the Gorloks out of the pinch. He set down the final six Griffins in a row to pick up the 5-2 win. Hafeli started on the mound in game two and retired the first 13 batters before giving up a double in the fifth inning. He finished with two strikeouts and tallied his second of the win day as Webster won 2-1.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Principia College's Alan Cheatham, a senior from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 23-29.

Cheatham hit .666 at the plate and had four multi-hit games last week. He went 10-for-15 overall with 12 RBI, three doubles, two home runs and one triple. Cheatham was 3-for-4 with four RBI and one triple in Principia's 8-5 victory over MacMurray College. He then added two hits, four RBI and one home run in a 12-7 loss to the Highlanders. After recording three doubles and one RBI in a 6-4 loss to Blackburn College, Cheatham hit 2-for-4 with three RBI and one home run to help Principia defeat the Beavers 8-2.

SOFTBALL - PITCHER
Spalding University's Rena Philpot, a senior from Lanesville, Ind. (Floyd Central), has been named the Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 23-29. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Philpot went 3-0 on the mound last week with a 1.00 ERA and 28 total strikeouts in 18.0 innings pitched. She started the week with six strikeouts in a 1-0 victory versus Hanover College. In 5.0 innings on the mound, Philpot gave up only two hits and one walk as she recorded the shutout. Philpot allowed five hits and two earned runs, while striking out 13 batters in a 4-3 win over Greenville College. She ended the week with a complete game, 6-1 victory versus Westminster College (Mo.) in which she struck out nine batters and gave up on three hits, one run and one walk in 7.0 innings of action.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Spalding University's Katy Flanagan, a sophomore from Floyd Knobs, Ind. (Providence, has been named the Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 23-29.

Flanagan tallied six hits, seven RBI, two doubles, one triple and one home run to help lead Spalding to a 5-1 record last week. She went 2-for-3 with one RBI and was 2-of-2 in stolen base attempts in a 9-5 win over Hanover College. She added a home run and three RBI in a 4-3 victory versus Greenville College and then had a double and one RBI in a 13-0 win to complete the double header sweep. Flanagan also went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one double and one triple as the Golden Eagles picked up a 6-1 victory versus Westminster College (Mo.).
