Webster Paces SLIAC Members in 2012 Directors' Cup Rankings

ST. LOUIS - Webster University Athletics, bolstered by a fifth place point finish by men's baseball, placed 111th out of 448 NCAA III members in the final standings for the 2012 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup.

The Cup is awarded by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). The ranking was the highest ever for the Gorloks, who had the top finish in Cup standings for the SLIAC for the 2011-12 year with 177 points. Greenville College (IL) was the second highest point score in the SLIAC, finishing in 137th place with 142.5.

The Directors' Cup ranking is determined by the number of points earned by teams a school has qualifying for the NCAA III Championships, and how well those teams perform in those tournaments. Teams are awarded a base of 25 points for qualifying for a championship tournament. The higher a team finishes determines how many additional points a team is awarded. The Webster baseball team earned an additional 53 points with its regional championship and a win in the NCAA World Series, for a 78 point total.

Webster's previous high finish in the 17-year history of the Directors' Cup was 122nd in 2007-08, when Webster sent four teams to the NCAA III championships. Westminster College finished with the third highest point total for the conference, 50, while Fontbonne University and Principia College each had 25 points.
