Webster Receives National Award for Community Service

ST. LOUIS - The National Association of (NCAA) Division III Athletic Administrators (NADIIIAA) has awarded Webster Athletics a Community Service Award for its on-going involvement with the UrbanFUTURE program. The UrbanFUTURE program matches Webster student/athletes as tutors with students at Froebel Elementary School in the St. Louis Public School District. This is the second year Webster athletes have participated in this partnership.

The Community Service Awards program, sponsored by the NADIIIAA and the Jostens Company, is intended to recognize the many contributions Division III student/athletes make to their campuses and communities. Webster received an award in the 'Ongoing Projects' category. Awards are also given for 'one-time projects' and 'an array of projects'. Webster Athletics was one of just six colleges and universities recognized in its category, and one of only 17 schools nationwide total for all categories.

Webster received an Award of Merit plaque, along with Allegheny College (PA). The University of Pittsburgh-Bradford (PA) was the winner in the Ongoing Projects category. Webster's partnership with UrbanFUTURE first began in the 2010-11 school year. Webster student/athletes each work with Froebel fourth and fifth graders to improve reading and math skills for one hour a week, for five consecutive weeks. Several Webster teams at a time volunteer for one of the three five-week sessions the department has arranged to work with Froebel students.

Jostens is a leading provider of products including yearbooks, class rings, graduation announcements, school photography, and employee and achievement awards. They are the exclusive sponsor of the NADIIIAA.
