Eureka's Lessen, Spalding's Harrod Both Repeat as Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of January 14-20.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Eureka College's Mark Lessen, a senior from Delavan, Ill., has been named the Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 14-20. This marks the second consecutive week that he has earned the honor.

Lessen, a center, averaged 15.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in a pair of SLIAC victories last week. He shot 52.0 percent from the field, while adding five assists, four blocks and two steals. Lessen scored 10 points on 4-of-7 (.571) shooting from the field in Eureka's 88-43 victory over Principia College. He also had five rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win. In the Red Devils' 64-60 win against Spalding University, Lessen played the full 40 minutes for the first time in his career, posting 20 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and one steal. His 20-point performance brought him one point shy of his 1,000th career point.

The two victories extended Eureka's win streak to seven games, marking the program's longest stretch without a defeat since the 1996-97 season.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Spalding University's Kelly Harrod, a senior from Mt. Washington, Ky., has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 14-20. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Harrod, a forward, averaged 19.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals in three games played last week. She scored a season-high 30 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and tallied five assists and five steals in an 82-47 win over Greenville College. Harrod then had 15 points and 10 rebounds to post her eighth double-double of the season as the Golden Eagles defeated MacMurray College 67-55. She also dished out five assists and had two steals in the win. She finished the week with 12 points and nine rebounds in a 60-37 loss to Eureka College on the road.
