Eureka Sweeps Basketball Player of the Week Honors for January 21-27

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of January 21-27.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Eureka College's Mark Lessen, a senior from Delavan, Ill., has been named the Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 21-27. This marks the third consecutive week that he has earned the honor.

Lessen, a center, averaged a double-double with 30.5 points and 12.0 rebounds in two SLIAC games last week. He shot 71.4 percent from the field, while adding six blocked shots. Lessen's 31-point effort at Blackburn College pushed him over the 1,000-point plateau for his career. He finished 13-of-18 (.722) from the field, grabbed nine rebounds and tallied four blocks as the Red Devils defeated Blackburn 75-64. Lessen added 30 points on 12-of-17 (.706) shooting and had 15 rebounds and two blocks in a 75-68 loss to Webster University.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Eureka College's Caty Eeten, a junior from Eureka, Ill., has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 21-27. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Eeten, a guard, averaged 25.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in two SLIAC victories last week, helping the Red Devils extend their win streak to five games. She shot 82.4 percent (14-of-17) from the charity stripe and recorded three assists, two steals and one blocked shot. Eeten had 30 points and was a perfect 9-of-9 (1.000) from the free throw line, while also adding eight rebounds, one steal and one block in a 63-51 victory versus Blackburn College. She added 21 points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal as the Red Devils defeated Webster University 69-64.

Eeten's 21-point effort at Webster moved her into fourth place on Eureka's all-time scoring list with 1,274 points. She also cracked the top 10 on Eureka's all-time field goal and assist list last week.
