Fontbonne Sweeps Baseball, Greenville Grabs Three of Four Track & Field Athlete of the Week Awards

St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of April 1-7.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Fontbonne University's Sean Fisher, a senior from Thousand Oaks, Calif. (Crepi Carmelite), has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 1-7.

Fisher hit 12-for-19 (.632) at the plate with eight RBI and three doubles in five games played last week. He also had a .789 slugging percentage and .696 on-base percentage. Fisher's best outing was a 3-for-4 performance with two doubles and three RBI in a 7-1 victory over Blackburn College. He added three hits, including one double and one RBI in the Griffins' lone loss of the week, 8-5 to Blackburn. Fisher also recorded two hits in each of the other three games. He finished the week by going 2-for-3 with two RBI in a 9-3 victory versus Blackburn.

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Fontbonne University's Andrew Schlereth, a senior from St. Louis, Mo. (Affton), has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 1-7.

Schlereth, a right-handed pitcher, threw a no-hitter as the Griffins defeated Greenville College, 3-0. In 7.0 innings on the mound, Schlereth struck out three batters and allowed no walks. He also started the second game of a double header versus Blackburn College and struck out another three batters in 7.0 innings of work.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Webster University's Rachel Franck, a freshman from Florissant, Mo. (McCluer North), has been named the Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 1-7.

Franck helped the Gorloks go 3-1 last week, batting .667 (6-for-9) on the week with a .667 slugging percentage. She went 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored in a 9-0 win over Blackburn College. She also tallied three stolen bases in the win. Franck went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one stolen base in a 3-0 victory versus Rose-Hulman, and she added one hit, one run scored and two stolen bases in a 3-2 win in game two of the double header with Rose-Hulman.

SOFTBALL - PITCHER
Spalding University's Kelci Flener, a freshman from Louisville, Ky. (Fern Creek), has been named the Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 1-7.

Flener posted a 1.35 ERA and struck out a total of 15 batters in 20.2 innings on the mound last week. She posted a 2-1 record with shutouts versus both Greenville College and MacMurray College. Flener threw two complete games, and started the week by allowing six hits, four runs, three walks and striking out three batters in a 4-3 loss to Franklin College. Flener allowed only two hits and struck out three in a 2-0 victory versus Greenville. She finished the week with nine strikeouts and four hits and three walks given up in a 2-0 win against MacMurray.

MEN'S GOLF
Webster University's Brodie Dakin, a freshman from Macomb, Ill., has been named the Men's Golfer of the Week for the week of April 1-7.

Dakin tied for 30th out of 132 total golfers at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational held at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill. He shot a 157 over the two days to finish 13 over par. Dakin had rounds of 77 and 80 on the par-72 course. Webster placed 12th overall out of 25 teams competing.

MEN'S TENNIS
Webster University's Ricky Eaves, a senior from Florissant, Mo. (McCluer North), has been named the Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of April 1-7.

Eaves improved to 14-1 in singles play with his win at the #5 position versus Greenville College. He defeated Greenville's Ryan Haas, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Eaves also partnered with teammate Travis Blair to post an 8-3 win at #2 Doubles against Greenville. Webster defeated Greenville, 9-0, to improve to 14-2 overall and 3-0 in SLIAC play.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Principia College's Carlie Sanderude, a junior from Ridgefield, Conn., has been named the Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of April 1-7.

Sanderude went 6-0 in matches last week, defeating all her #1 Singles opponents in straight sets and only giving up three total singles games and four total doubles games through three matches played. She shutout Fontbonne's Caroline Grewer in singles play, 6-0, 6-0, and also shutout the Griffins' #1 Doubles team, 8-0. Sanderude went on to defeat Westminster's Sarah Heeter, 6-0, 6-1, before defeating non-conference opponent Illinois Wesleyan, 6-1, 6-1, in the #1 Singles spot. Sanderude and teammate Sarah Corbitt finished with 8-1 and 8-3 victories at #1 Doubles versus Westminster and Illinois Wesleyan respectively.

MEN'S FIELD
Greenville College's Josh Kuusisto, a junior from Show Low, Ariz., has been named the Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of April 1-7.

Kuusisto placed second in the hammer throw at the Washington U. Select Meet this past weekend. He broke his own school record of 57.83 meters with a throw of 60.04 meters. Kuusisto currently ranks second in the hammer throw in NCAA DIII.

MEN'S TRACK
Greenville College's Bruce Gray, a sophomore from Chicago, Ill. (Chicago Leo), has been named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of April 1-7.

Gray placed first in both the 100-meter and 200-meter at the Washington U. Select Meet. He posted a time of 10.84 seconds in the 100-m and in his first time running the 200-m this year, Gray posted a time of 21.26 seconds. Both times rank him in the top of NCAA DIII.

WOMEN'S FIELD
Greenville College's Maggie McMurtrey, a junior from Morton, Ill., has been named the Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of April 1-7. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

McMurtrey competed in the hammer throw, shot put and discus at the Washington U. Select Meet and placed first, fifth and sixth respectively. Her best event was the hammer throw, in which she posted a throw of 50.32 meters and ranks her ninth in NCAA DIII. She had a throw of 10.46 meters in the shot put and 34.02 meters in the discus.

WOMEN'S TRACK
Principia College's Casey Powell, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo. (Cheyenne Mountain), has been named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of April 1-7.

Powell won the 1500-meter run at the Washington U. Select Meet with a time of 4:52.77. She led the race wire-to-wire, really taking a beating from the win in front. Powell also finished seventh in the 800-meter.
