Eureka's Tapper Earns Third Player of the Week Honor for 2013

St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of April 8-14.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Westminster College's Tyler Branneky, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Lutheran North), has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 8-14.

Branneky batted .550 at the plate in five games played last week. He totaled 11 hits, 10 RBI, two doubles and two home runs with a .950 slugging percentage. Branneky started the week with two hits, two runs scored, two RBI and one home run in a 9-8 victory over Fontbonne University. He followed that by going 3-for-4 with two RBI in a 7-6 victory to complete the double header sweep of Fontbonne. Branneky had another 3-for-4 performance in a 3-1 win on the road at Greenville. He then added two hits, including a double and a home run, three RBI and two runs scored as the Blue Jays defeated the Panthers 14-4. He finished the week with one double and two RBI in a 9-8 win versus Greenville.

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Webster University's Dylan Dean Smith, a junior from Albion, Ill. (Edwards County), has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 8-14.

Smith threw the first nine-inning no-hitter in Webster baseball history as the Gorloks defeated MacMurray College 6-0. Smith had nine strikeouts and no walks, with only two batters reaching, both on Gorlok errors. After a Webster error in the second inning with two outs, Smith set down the final 22 batters to end the game. In addition to the no-hitter, Smith also posted a win in relief with a 5-4 victory over Greenville College. He allowed a single but got the next batter on a strikeout to pick up the win.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Eureka College's Savanna Tapper, a freshman from East Peoria, Ill., has been named the Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 8-14.

Tapper hit .500 (11-for-22) for the week with three doubles, a triple and her first career home run. She started the week by recording two hits in both games of a double header with Webster University. She then had a triple in an 8-0 victory versus Principia College and added three hits, two doubles, a home run and four RBI in a 10-1 win in game two of the double header with Principia. Tapper finished the week with three hits total in a double header sweep versus Harris-Stowe State University.

SOFTBALL - PITCHER
Eureka College's Tomi Tapper, a senior from East Peoria, Ill., has been named the Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 8-14. This marks the third time this season that she has earned the honor.

Tapper did not allow a single earned run in 15.0 innings on the mound last week. She went 2-1 with victories over Principia College and Harris-Stowe State University. Tapper also struck out 17 batters, while walking three and allowing only one extra base hit for the week. Tapper recorded five strikeouts in a complete game loss, 4-1, to Webster University. She went on to tally six strikeouts in both victories, an 8-0 win versus Principia and an 8-0 win against Harris-Stowe.

MEN'S GOLF
Webster University's Dan Klipsch, a senior from Joliet, Ill. (Joliet Catholic), has been named the Men's Golfer of the Week for the week of April 8-14.

Klipsch tied for 11th place out of 75 golfers at the Weist Foundation Classic hosted at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur, Ill. He shot rounds of 77 and 73 to finish eight-over par with a 150. Webster placed sixth out of 11 teams competing with a score of 639.

MEN'S TENNIS
Webster University's Travis Blair, a freshman from Jerseyville, Ill., has been named the Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of April 8-14.

Blair went 6-1 on the week, including 3-0 in the SLIAC. He was 4-0 in singles action for the week, including two wins at #4 and #3 versus SLIAC opponents. He also had a 6-1, 0-6, 6-4 victory at #4 Singles against Augustana College, ranked 18th in the Central Region, and a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the #4 position versus Illinois Wesleyan University. Blair and teammate Ricky Eaves tallied two victories at #2 Doubles, 8-1 and 8-2, versus Principia College and Illinois Wesleyan respectively. His lone loss was an 8-1 defeat to Augustana's doubles duo at the #2 position.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Principia College's Sarah Corbitt, a senior from Ballwin, Mo. (Principia Upper), has been named the Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of April 8-14.

Corbitt went undefeated last week at both #2 Singles and #1 Doubles. She defeated Webster University's Hilary Fitz, 6-0, 6-2, to remain the only undefeated #2 Singles player in the SLIAC. Corbitt and teammate Carlie Sanderude are also undefeated at #1 Doubles and defeated the Gorloks' duo, 8-3. Corbitt picked up wins at both positions versus Lindenwood University, sliding by with a 6-3, 7-6(7-3) win in singles play.

MEN'S FIELD
Principia College's Conrad Bollinger, a freshman from Portland, Maine (Principia Upper), has been named the Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of April 8-14.

Bollinger placed second in the men's pole vault at the SLU Invitational with a clearance of 15'1/4". He now holds the Principia record in the pole vault and also ranks 21st in NCAA DIII.

MEN'S TRACK
Westminster College's DeVaughn Abram, a freshman from Tulsa, Okla. (Booker T. Washington), has been named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of April 8-14.

Abram broke the modern day Blue Jays' record and placed fourth in the 100-meter dash at the SLU Invitational. He recorded a time of 11.05 seconds. Abram also finished 10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.66 seconds.

WOMEN'S FIELD
Principia College's Lyssa Winslow, a sophomore from Londonderry, N.H., has been named the Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of April 8-14.

Winslow broke her own personal record by 10 feet with a throw of 143'4" in the hammer throw at the SLU Invitational. She placed fourth overall and now stands third in the Principia record book.

WOMEN'S TRACK
Webster University's Eroica Stackhouse, a junior from Tipton, Ind., has been named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of April 8-14.

Stackhouse ran a 19:05.91 in the 5000-meter, finishing 14th at the SLU Invitational, to set the Webster school record. She beat the previous school record by 32 seconds. Stackhouse also posted a time of 2:34.99 in the 800-meter and 5:10.05 in the 1500-meter, finishing 25th and 22nd respectively.
