Spalding Softball Sweeps Player of the Week Awards for April 22-28

St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of April 22-28.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Webster University's Alex Kazmierski, a senior from Orland Park, Ill. (Triton College), has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 22-28. This marks the second time this season that he has earned the honor.

Kazmierski posted a .474 batting average last week with nine hits and seven RBI. He had six hits and all seven of his RBIs in a double header sweep on the road at Spalding University. He went 3-for-5 with one double and five RBI in a 9-4 win in game one, followed by three hits, two RBI and one run scored in a 8-5 victory in game two. Kazmierski also added two hits earlier in the week as the Gorloks defeated Washington University-St. Loius, 10-7.

BASEBALL - PITCHER
Greenville College's Scotty Voyles, a senior from Crisp, Ill. (Wayne City), has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 22-28.

Voyles set the career saves mark at Greenville with 13 total. He went 4-for-4 in save opportunities last week, pitching a total of 4.0 innings, recording a total of three strikeouts and allowing on four hits. The Panthers posted a 4-0 record on the week, defeating Principia College, 7-5, and sweeping a three-game series versus Eureka College.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Spalding University's Kelsey McDowell, a freshman from Louisville, Ky. (Male), has been named the Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 22-28.

McDowell hit .538 at the plate last week with seven hits, nine RBI and three home runs. She also posted a 1.308 slugging percentage. After a slow start in game one of a double header with Hanover College, McDowell came out in game two and went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI to lead the Golden Eagles to an 8-7 victory. She then hit 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI in a 6-3 win versus Webster University. McDowell ended the week with two hits, one home run (a grand slam) and five RBI as Spalding completed the sweep of the Gorloks with a 9-4 victory.

SOFTBALL - PITCHER
Spalding University's Kelci Flener, a freshman from Louisville, Ky. (Fern Creek), has been named the Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 22-28. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Flener posted a 3-0 record on the mound last week and had an 0.88 ERA in 16.0 innings pitched. She began the week with a complete game victory versus non-conference opponent Hanover College. Flener gave up four hits, two walks and struck out one batter as the Golden Eagles won 1-0. She pitched 2.0 innings in relief in game two of the double header with Hanover and tallied two more strikeouts and the victory. Flener then threw 7.0 innings, recorded four strikeouts and allowed only two earned runs, four hits and three walks as Spalding defeated Webster University 6-3.
