Six Webster Student-Athletes Claim Player of the Week Honors

St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of October 15-21.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Webster University's Jason Hickson, a sophomore from Hillsboro, Mo., has been named the Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of October 15-21.

Hickson shattered the Webster school record for an 8K, beating the previous mark of 27:05 by 24 seconds at the St. Louis Fall Classic held in Forest Park. He placed ninth out of 75 collegiate runners with his time of 26:41.4, which also marked a personal best.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Webster University's Jane McKibben, a senior from St. Louis, Mo. (Lindbergh), has been named the Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of October 15-21.

McKibben posted a personal best time of 20:51.5 on the 5K course at the St. Louis Fall Classic held in Forest Park. She placed 33rd out of 78 runners.

MEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Webster University's Pat McCaffrey, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Bishop DuBourg), has been named the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 15-21.

McCaffrey, a forward, recorded his first career hat trick in Webster's 5-1 win over MacMurray College. It was a "pure" hat trick, as McCaffrey scored three straight goals, including the game-winner and first three of the game to put the Gorloks ahead 3-0. Webster defeated MacMurray 5-1 and also had a 1-0 victory versus Principia College.

MEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE
Greenville College's Dusty Knoll, a sophomore from Arnold, Mo. (Fox), has been named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 15-21.

Knoll, a defender, led the Panthers defense to a 2-0 shutout over Westminster College (Mo.). Greenville handed the Blue Jays their second conference loss, while remaining unbeaten themselves in the SLIAC at 3-0-2.

WOMEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Webster University's Kristin Montgomery, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Duchesne), has been named the Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 15-21.

Montgomery, a forward, had two goals and one assist in two games played last week. She had the game-winning goal and tallied one assist in a 10-0 Webster victory versus MacMurray College. Montgomery then netted the lone and game-winning goal in a 1-0 win on the road at Principia College, handing Principia their first conference loss since the 2007 season and keeping Webster undefeated at 6-0.

WOMEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE
Webster University's Jessica Davis, a sophomore from Belleville, Ill. (Belleville West), has been named the Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 15-21. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Davis, a goalkeeper, extended her shutout streak in the SLIAC to six games as the Gorloks defeated MacMurray College, 10-0, and Principia College, 1-0. She also extended her shutout minutes to 540 minutes in conference play and lowered her goals-against average to 0.53. Davis posted 11 saves in the 1-0 victory on the road that handed Principia their first conference loss since the 2007 season.

VOLLEYBALL - OFFENSIVE
Webster University's Sam Kersting, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Lindbergh), has been named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 15-21. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Kersting, a middle hitter, led the Gorloks to a 3-set sweep over Spalding University with 11 kills, five blocks and a .667 attack percentage. She added 13 kills in 27 attempts, five service aces, four blocks, including three solo blocks, as Webster lost a hard-fought match, 3-2, to Hanover College in non-conference action. Webster has swept 10 straight SLIAC matches and currently sits in second place in the standings at 12-1.

VOLLEYBALL - DEFENSIVE
MacMurray College's Sammy Petefish, a junior from Ashland, Ill. (Lincoln Land CC), has been named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 15-21.

Petefish, a libero, recorded 72 digs in two matches played last week for an average of 9.00 digs per set. She tallied 7.50 digs per set with her 30 total digs in MacMurray's 3-1 victory versus Blackburn College. Petefish added 42 digs, averaging 10.50 digs per set, in a 3-1 non-conference loss to Beloit College.
