Webster's Griffin, Spalding's Harrod Tally Double-Doubles to Earn Player of the Week
St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the Athletes of the Week for the week of December 10-16.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Webster University's Aaron Griffin,
a sophomore from Farm Haven, Miss. (Velma Jackson), has been
named the Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of
December 10-16.
Griffin, a center, tallied 20 points and 21 rebounds as the Gorloks lost a 97-89 overtime decision on the road at Rust College. His 21 rebounds is the most in a game since the 1986 season for the Gorloks. Griffin finished with six offensive and 15 defensive boards, while shooting 8-of-11 (.727) from the field and recording two assists, one steal and one block.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Spalding University's Kelly Harrod,
a senior from Mt. Washington, Ky., has been named the Women's
Basketball Player of the Week for the week of December 10-16.
Harrod, a forward, averaged a double-double with 18.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in two games played last week. She did record a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds in a 76-70 loss to Centre College. Harrod shot 5-of-12 (.417) from the field and 9-of-11 (.818) from the charity stripe for the game. She followed that performance with 18 points, eight rebounds and two steals in a 79-53 loss to nationally ranked #5 Washington University-St. Louis. Eight of her 18 points came at the line, where she shot 8-of-9 (.889) for the game.
