Westminster SAAC Participates in MLK Day of Service

Fulton, Mo. - Westminster College members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and athletes joined together with other students, faculty, staff and the Fulton community to pack two months' worth of Buddy Packs on January 21, 2013, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Westminster encouraged students and others to make Martin Luther King Jr. Day a day of service rather than a holiday off.

In honor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Westminster community joined together and packed 1,720 Buddy Packs in just 36 minutes and 39 seconds. Students walked through a line of tables, grabbing items and placing them in baggies. The small amount of time volunteered directly helps the Fulton community.

Buddy Packs are "bags filled with kid-friendly, nutritious food that students take home over the weekend or holiday periods when there is not enough for them to eat at home." The Buddy Pack program helps feed more than 6,700 children each week. For more information of Buddy Packs, visit http://sharefoodbringhope.org/buddy-packs/.
