Blackburn College Teams With Children's Hospital For Fundraiser

Blackburn College will host a Guinness World Record attempt for the world's longest soccer game next week in an attempt to raise $100,000 for research on pediatric cancer at St. Louis Children's Hospital. The world record event will last 76 hours, beginning April 10 at 12 p.m. and come to a close on April 13 at 5 p.m. The current record for longest soccer game is 72 hours set by a Swedish group.

This event holds a spot close to the Blackburn community as Jackson Steinkuehler, 15-month old son of Blackburn head men's soccer coach Rob Steinkuehler, has been battling a brain tumor since being diagnosed last June.

The event will include 36 players on two teams and consist of current Blackburn student-athletes as well as alumni and friends. Players will be unable to leave the field area, which will have the addition of portable lights for night play. Blackburn is located an hour and a half outside of St. Louis in Carlinville, Illinois.

Blackburn has teamed with local organizers for next week's event. The local group has helped raise over $500,000 in donations through previous world record games such as longest baseball and longest basketball game.
