SLIAC Game of the Week - Jan. 21st

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Game of the Week is a weekly feature that highlights a key match-up in the conference. This week's game of the week is between MacMurray College and Webster University.

This week's game pits MacMurray against Webster in a battle for second place in the SLIAC. MacMurray and Webster each start the week with a 6-1 conference mark and will square off on Saturday, January 25 in Jacksonville, Ill.

About MacMurray
MacMurray begins the week with a 10-4 overall record and have won three straight contests. The Highlanders are coming off an 80-68 win over Greenville on Saturday and will host Fontbonne on Wednesday before taking on Webster this weekend. MacMurray is aveaging 78.4 points per game this season, tops in the SLIAC.

They are led by senior forward Brady Slagle. Slagle is averaging 16.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game this season. He is shooting 56-percent from the field and leads teh team with 42 assists. Dylan Burton is second on the team in scoring at 10.6 points per game and is shooting an impressive 62-percent from the field while Spencer Pratt is averaging 10.1 points and a team high 1.4 steals per game. 

 

About Webster
Webster starts the week with a 9-5 overall record and hold a four game winning streak coming into this week. Their latest victory was a 69-51 win over Principia last Saturday. They will face first-place Spalding on Thursday before heading out on the road to MacMurray. Webster is averaging 73.6 points per game this season, third best in the conference.

The Gorloks feature a inside-outside combination of Kevin Miller and Ahmad Smith. After a three year absence Miller, a sophomore center, is averaging 14.4 points and a team high 8.3 rebounds per game. Smith, a junior guard, leads the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game and has knocked down a team high 19 three-pointers this year. Hollis Edwards is a threat on both sides of the ball, averaging 8.1 points and 3.6 assists per game while also leading the conference in steals with 47.

Game Notes

  • MacMurray leads the all-time series against Webster 26-21 with Webster winning the last meeting 64-63 on Jan. 23, 2013.
  • Each of the last two meetings between this teams has resulted in the game winning field goal coming in the last minute of play.
  • This meeting features two of the top four scorers in the league. MacMurray's Slage is second at 16.2 points per game and Webster's Smith is fourth at 14.9 points per game.
  • The top three field goal percentage leaders will be competing in this game: MacMurray's Burton is first while his teammates Slagle and Whitlock are second and third.
