SLIAC Game of the Week - Men's Tennis Championships

About the Championship
The 2014 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament will be held this weekend, Friday and Saturday, at the Westminster Christian Academy in Town and Country, Mo. Matches will begin at 11 a.m. on both days and include competitors from Fontbonne University, Greenville College, Principia College, Webster University and Westminster College.

School Team Information

Fontbonne failed to record a win this season in SLIAC play, going 0-5. Austin Sides held the #1 spot for the Griffins this season while Thaddeus Justice played four matches at the second spot. The Griffins top doubles team was Justice and Sides who combined to play in three #1 doubles matches during conference play.

 

 

Greenville went 2-1 during conference match play, winning 9-0 over Fontbonne and 5-4 over Webster. They dropped a 6-3 match to Westminster. The Panthers' Demetrius Bush went undefeated in conference play, at 3-0, winning two matches at #6 and another at #3 singles. Code Power was 2-0 at #5 singles. Their top player, Jonathan Urshan, went 1-2 in #1 singles. In doubles play the duo of Alex Dowley and Urshan went 2-1 at the top spot.

The Principia Panthers went undefeated in the SLIAC in dual matches this season including winning 17 of 18 singles matches. Jason Wissman was 3-0 in #1 singles action in the SLIAC and was 7-6 overall this year. Nate Waters also picked up three conference wins, at #3 singles, and had a team best eight overall wins in singles play this season. The #1 doubles team of Joey Sander and Wissman went 2-1 in conference play while the teams of Kenny Sydness and Waters and Andrew Rohrer and Aaron Switzer each went 3-0.

Webster went 6-6 overall but just 1-3 in the SLIAC this season. The Gorloks won their first conference match of the season, a 9-0 win over Fontbonne, but have dropped their last three matches, all conference meetings, as they enter the tournament. Juan Granizo went 6-1 overall at #1 singles this season including 3-1 in SLIAC competition. Karl Wesshaupt also notched a 3-1 record in conference play this year as he split time between #2 and #3 singles. The top doubles team of Granizo and Wesshaupt went 2-2 in SLIAC play and 4-3 overall this season.

The Westminster Blue Jays come into the tournament on a three match winning streak. They have used three different players at #1 singles with Tyler Wollmerhauser seeing most of the action this season, going 2-6 overall. Kyle Collins recorded a team high four conference wins in singles play, ranging from #2 singles all the way down to #5 singles. The doubles combination of Collins and Scott Strough went undefated in conference play this season.
