SLIAC Game of the Week - Oct. 1

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Game of the Week is a weekly feature that highlights a key match-up in the conference. This week's SLIAC Game of the Week is the women's soccer contest between Greenville College and Webster University. Greenville and Webster will square off on Saturday, October 5th at 7 p.m. at AB Soccer Park fields.

About the Panthers
Greenville is under the direction of first year head coach Jeff Wardlaw and start the week with a 2-6 overall record. The Lady Panthers have had trouble finding the back of the net this season with just six goals in eight games but are coming off their first conference win of the season, a 2-1 victory over Spalding last weekend. Maureen Murphy and Kelsey Panzau netted the Greenville goals, both coming in the first half, to secure the victory. On the season Greenville is averaging 6.1 shots per game and are led by 2012 All-Conference performer Panzau. Panzau, a senior defender, and Murphy, a senior midfielder, are tied for the team lead with two goals and one assist for five total points. In net Heidi Koehl has played all 720 minutes for Greenville, recording a .757 save percentage with a 2.25 goals against average and 56 saves.

About the Gorloks
Webster is currently in first place in the SLIAC with a 9-2 overall record. The Gorloks lead the conference in nearly every statistical category including a league high 20.5 shots per game. They have out scored their opponents 36-8 this season and are coming off a 5-0 win over Eureka. Webster has won four of their last five games with their only loss coming to #3 ranked Washing University (Mo.). Ashley Mess, a sophomore forward, leads the team with seven goals a total of 13 different players have tallied a goal for the Gorloks this season. Junior keeper Jessica Davis has seen the majority of the time in net, playing just under 700 minutes, recording a .818 save percentage with 27 saves.

  • Did you know that Webster holds a 57-1-3 record at AB Soccer Park against SLIAC schools
  • This is a rematch of the 2012 SLIAC Women's Soccer Championship game which saw Webster win 1-0.
  • Webster was picked first in the 2013 SLIAC Women's Soccer Coaches Preseason poll while Greenville was picked fourth.
  • Webster got off to a 5-0 start this season, their best start since 2007 when they opened with six straight wins.
