SLIAC Players of the Week - March 17

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Deion Hughes, Westminster College

Hughes, a sophomore outfielder from Jefferson City, Mo., was key to the Blue Jay offense that scored 32 runs in four games last week, compiling a 3-1 record. Hughes hit .667 on the week, going 8-of-12 at the plate, and had a .733 on-base percentage. Hughes was 7-for-8 in a double header against Lincoln, adding two runs scored and a run batted in. He picked up another hit and two walks in a double header against Robert Morris-Springfield. For the week he finished with four runs scored, one stolen base and one RBI with a .667 batting average.

 

 

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Zach Schneider, Webster University

Schneider, a senior pitcher from Grayslake, Ill., is this week's Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week. Schneider picked up a win in his season debut, a 9-3 victory over Wartburg. In the game Schneider went six scoreless innings, scattering six hits while striking out two.

 

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Paige French, Spalding University

French, a senior infielder from Louisville, Ky., is this week's SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week. French hit .800 on the week in helping her team to a split against Blackburn. French was 2-for-2 in game one of the double header including a walk. She scored three times in the 11-1 win and added two runs batted in. In game two French went 2-for-3 with a double. On the week French was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two runs batted in while maintaining a perfect fielding percentage on eight chances.

SLIAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jodi Bowen, Eureka College

Bowen, a senior pitcher from Metamora, Ill., picked up five wins on the week for Eureka in being named SLIAC Pitcher of the Week. Bowen started the week with three straight scoreless appearances, allowing no runs through 13 innings, and picking up wins in all three games. In her second apperance of the week she combined for a no-hitter against Hilbert, going four innings and striking out six. Bown recorded 12 strikeouts in a win over SUNY Canton. She closed out the week with wins over Rivier and Cazenovia, including 12 strikeouts against Rivier.

SLIAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Hanne Andersen, Principia College

Andersen, a sophomore from Orinda, Calif., recorded five combined wins on the week. Andersen, playing at #2 singles, notched a 6-3, 6-1 win over Hardin-Simmons and followed with an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win over Biola. She closed out her singles action on the week with a 6-3, 4-1 (Ret.) against nationally ranked Sewanee. In doubles play Andersen teamed up on the #1 team and recorded an 8-3 win over Cal Tech and a 8-2 win over Avila.

 

SPECIAL MENTIONS:

  • Deion Hughes, Westminster College (Baseball, Pitcher) Hughes allowed just four hits and struck out 12 batters in just seven innings while picking up a complete game win over Robert Morris-Springfield.
  • Brittany Lee, Westminster College (Softball, Pitcher) Lee became the Blue Jays all-time leader in wins and strikeouts when she defeated Loras last week. She now has 23 career victories and 280 strikeouts.
