SLIAC Players of the Week - March 24

This week's SLIAC Players of the Week include nine student-athletes from four different conference members in five different sports. They are: Matt Borst, Westminster College; Juan Granizo, Webster University; Jenny Howard, Webster University; Kyle Jenkins, Spalding University; Brittany Lee, Westminster College; Lauren McClain, Webster University; Erin McGinnis, Webster University; Zach Schneider, Webster University; and Taylor Stoulp, Webster University.

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Taylor Stoulp, Webster University

Stoulp, a senior infielder from St. Louis, Mo., is this week's Diamond Sports Hitter of the Week. Stoulp helped the nationally ranked Gorloks to a 3-1 record on the week hitting .333 with an on-base percentage of .500. Stoulp recorded two multi-hit games on the week including a 2-for-5 game in which he added two runs, two doubles and two RBI in a win over Washington University. On the week Stoulp was 5-for-15 at the plate with five runs scored, four runs batted in and three stolen bases while converting all 26 opportunities in the field.

SLIAC/DIAMOND BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Zach Schneider, Webster University

Schneider, a senior from Grayslake, Ill., is the Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week. Schneider extended his scoreless streak with another complete game shutout win. Schneider went seven innings, allowing no runs and just three hits while striking out three in a win over llinois Wesleyan.

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Erin McGinnis, Webster University

McGinnis, a sophomore outfielder from Fenton, Mo., is this week's SLIAC Hitter of the Week after hitting .875 in a pair of conference games. McGinnis went 7-for-8 from the plate in a doubleheader sweep over Eureka. She was 4-for-4 in game one, adding two runs scored and followed by going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three runs batted in. On the week she finished with a .889 on-base percentage and a 1.250 slugging percentage.

SLIAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Brittany Lee, Westminster College

Lee, a senior from Chesterfield, Mo., won all four of her outings on the week. She picked up a pair of complete game wins including a shutout victory over Iowa Wesleyan in which she notched nine strikeouts. Lee finished the week with a 1.88 earned-run average, allowing just 15 hits in 22.1 innings pitched while recording 16 strikeouts.

 

SLIAC MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Juan Granizo, Webster University

Granizo, a freshman from Quito, Ecuador, is this week's Men's Tennis Player of the Week. Granizo went 3-1 in competition this week, winning both of his individual matches. Competing at the #1 singles position he picked up a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 win over Lake Forest. He followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Illinois College that also saw him record an 8-3 win in #1 doubles action.

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Field) Kyle Jenkins, Spalding University

Jenkins, a junior from Louisville, Ky., was named the Men's Field Player of the Week after an impressive showing in the J. Owen Huntsman Relays. Jenkins picked up three top three finishes including a first-place victory in the shot put. Jenkins threw a distance of 15.31 meters in the shotput to claim the victory. He followed with a distance of 51.09 meters in the Hammer Throw, finishing second; and a distance of 49.21 meters in the discus to place third.

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Track) Matt Borst, Westminster College

Borst, a senior from Flower Mound, Texas, earned SLIAC Track Player of the Week honors this week after placing in the top two of three events at the Culver-Stockton Open. Borst won the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:02.85 and added a win in the 4x800 meter relay. He placed second at the meet in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:11.15.

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Field) Lauren McClain, Webster University

McClain, a freshman from Imperial, Mo., picked up Women's Field Player of the Week honors after her showing at the Rhodes Invitational. McClain claimed the top spot in the shot put with a distance of 11.76 meter, setting a new school record. She also competed in the discus, placing 20th with a distance of 29.53 meters.

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK (TRACK) Jenny Howard, Webster University

Howard, a junior from Florissant, Mo., is the SLIC Women's Track Player of the Week. Howard placed in the top three in two individual events at the Rhodes Invitational while recording the top times in the SLIAC this season in both events. She placed second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.46, just .08 behind the leader. She followed with a third-place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.39.

 

SPECIAL MENTIONS

  • Kelli Dockstader, Eureka College (Softball) Dockstader went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, including a home run and five runs batted in during a conference meeting against Webster.
  • Bruce Gray, Greenville College (Men's Track and Field) Gray was impressive in his first outdoor competition this past weekend, winning the 200 meter race at the Washington University Mini-Meet. His time of 21.35 currently puts him in the top spot of qualifying at the NCAA Division III level.
