SLIAC Players of the Week - April 14

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Will Miller, Westminster College

Miller, a sophomore from Oakville, Mo., is the Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week after recording a 1-0 complete game shutout win over conference foe Principia College last week. Miller went the full nine innings, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out 12.

 

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Taylor Stoulp, Webster University

Stoulp, a senior infielder from St. Louis, Mo., is the Diamond Sports Hitter of the Week for the third time this season. Stoulp hit .667 on the week with four runs batted in. Stoulp hit safely in all six games on the week and recorded five multi-hit games including a 4-for-4 performance in game one of a double header against Principia. On the week he was 14-of-21 at the plate with six runs scored and was perfect in the field.

SLIAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Kelci Flener, Spalding University

Flener, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky., went 3-0 with a 1.40 earned-run average last week. She won both games of a double header against Iowa Wesleyan including a seven inning, nine strikeout performance in game one. Flener added a win the next day with a five inning, one hit and eight strikeout game against MacMurray. On the week she struck out 19 batters in 15 innings and allowed just nine hits.

SLIAC SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Rachel Franck, Webster University

Franck, a sophomore from Florissant, Mo., hit .524 on the week while helping her team to a 4-1 record. Franck recorded four multi-hit games with her standout game coming in a win over Blackburn. In that game Franck was 5-for-6 with four runs scored and five runs batted in. On the week Franck went 11-for-21 at the plate with 10 runs scored and 11 RBI while adding two stolen bases.

SLIAC GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Zach Koonce, MacMurray College

Koonce, a freshman from Washington, Ill., had a pair of top two finishes last week in tournaments. He took first-place in the Illinois College Invitational where he won with a two round score of 145, finishing one over par. Koonce then placed second in the Invitational the next day. On the week he averaged 76.5 strokes per round.

SLIAC MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kyle Collins, Westminster College

Collins, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., is the SLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week. Collins won all six matches on the week including three singles and three doubles victories. Playing at #4 singles against Greenville he won 6-4 and 6-3 and against Webster recorded a 6-4, 6-2 win. He then moved up to the #2 spot against Fontbonne where he won 6-0 and 6-1. In doubles action Collins won 9-7 against Greenville, 8-2 against Webster and 8-0 against Fontbonne.

SLIAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Marissa Lewis, Webster University

Lewis, a junior from Owasso, Okla., is the SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Lewis went 4-2 on the week, winning all three of her singles matches. She won 7-6 and 6-3 against Principia, marking the first time in nearly two years Principia has suffered a loss in singles during conference play. Lewis added a 6-0, 6-0 win over Fontbonne and a 6-3 and 6-1 win over Lindenwood-Belleville.

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Field) Josh Kuusisto, Greenville College

Kuusisto, a senior from Show Low, Ariz., placed first in the hammer throw at last week's SLU Invite. Kuusisto finished with a season best distance of 58.66 meters and currently ranks 4th in the division with that distance.

 

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Track) Bruce Gray, Greenville College

Gray, a junior from Chicago, Ill., set a school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.81 and a first-place finish at last week's SLU Invite. That time is the fastest in D III this season by 0.36 seconds. Gray added two more first-place showings last weekend, running 10.50 seconds in the 100-meter and also picking up a win in the 4x100 relay.

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Field) Lyssa Winslow, Principia College

Winslow, a junior, placed fourth in the hammer throw at the SLU Invite last weekend. She set a personal record with a distance of 44.63-meters, the second best mark in the SLIAC this season.

 

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Track) Jenny Howard, Webster University

Howard, a junior from Florissant, Mo., placed second in two events at the SLU Invite last weekend. She set a personal best in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.10 seconds, ranking 15th in the nation. She then ran a season best 12.38 seconds in the 100-meter dash, good for 26th in the nation. Both times are tops in the conference this season.

SPECIAL MENTIONS

  • Bryan Meyer, Eureka College (Baseball) Meyer picked up a 2-0 complete game shutout win over MacMurray, becoming the first Red Devils pitcher to record a complete shutout since 2012. Meyer allowed just three hits in the victory while striking out three.
  • Ryan Mosby, Spalding University (Baseball) Mosby was 7-for-9 in a double header against MacMurray, adding nine runs batted in and six runs scored.
  • Tim Osborne, Greenville College (Baseball) Osborne had four hits, three going for home runs, in a double header against MacMurray. He added eight runs batted in during the two games including seven RBI in game one.
