SLIAC Players of the Week - Oct. 21st

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced the Players of the Week for October 21st. The following student-athletes earned this week's honors Lindsey Adshade, Drew Cook, Corinne Coon, Sarah Litwiller, Wylie Mangelsdorf, Katie O'Toole, Kelsey Panzau, Raul Romero.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Wylie Mangelsdorf (Principia College) Mangelsdorf, a senior from Palmer, Alas., took 12th place at the Brooks Invitational hosted by Wisconsin-Osh Kosh. Mangelsdorf finished the 8K race with a time of 24:57 just 37 seconds behind the race winner. This marks the fourth time this season that he has earned SLIAC Men's Runner of the Week.

 

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Sarah Litwiller (Principia College) Litwiller, a junior from Concord, Calif., nearly set a prersonal record this past weekend with a time of 22:45 in the 6K Brooks Invitational hosted by Wisconsin-Osh Kosh. Litwiller finished just 1:41 behind the race winner and used a late surge over the final 2K to make her way past roughly 100 other runners.

 

MEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Drew Cook (Westminster College) Cook, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo., led his team to a 2-1 victory over Fontbonne last weekend in a meeting of undefeated conference teams. Cook gave his team an early lead with a goal just 21 minutes into the game and would go on to score the game winning goal on a breakaway in overtime.

 

MEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE
Raul Romero (Westminster College) Romero, a freshman from Celaya, Mexico, picked up a pair of conference wins in net last weekend for the Blue Jays. Romero came up with four saves in his team's 2-1 win over Fontbonne and followed with two saves in a 1-0 shutout win over Spalding. On the week Romero finished with six saves and a .857 save percentage in 190 minutes of action. This marks the second time this season he has won the weekly award.

 

WOMEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE
Kelsey Panzau (Greenville College) Panzau, a senior from Waterloo, Ill., recorded two goals and six assists in just two games last week. Panzau played a role in all five goals of a 5-0 win over Eureka, with one goal and four asssits. She also tallied one goal and two assists in a win over MacMurray earlier in the week.

 

WOMEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE
Lindsey Adshade (Webster University) Adshade, a junior from Chicago, Ill., was instrumental in helping the Webster defense hold their opponents top attackers in check on the week. Adshade and the Gorlok defense held both their opponents top two scoring players without a shot in this week's games. She also added an assist in her team's win over Principia.

 

VOLLEYBALL - OFFENSIVE
Corinne Coon (Greenville College) Coon, a senior from Warsaw, Ind., had a highlight week averaging 4.86 kills and 3.86 digs per set in a pair of wins. Coon recorded 16 kills in a win over Iowa Wesleyan and added 18 kills in a win over Spalding. She hit .353 on the week with just four errors and added 27 digs and three total blocks. This marks the fourth time that Coon has been named the Offensive Player of the Week this season.

 

VOLLEYBALL - DEFENSIVE
Katie O'Toole (Webster University) O'Toole, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo., made her mark on the court last week averaging 6.58 digs per set. She recorded at least 20 digs in three of her five matches including a 42 dig performance against Redlands. O'Toole finished with 125 digs in five matches last week and this is the second consecutive week she has taken home top honors.

 

SPECIAL MENTIONS

  • Jacob Ayers, Iowa Wesleyan College (Cross Country) Ayers broke his previous personal best time by 46 seconds with a 27:51 mark in the 8K race last weekend, taking 16th overall.
  • Kesli Blankenship, Eureka College (Women's Soccer) Blankenship tallied six goals and one assist in a win over Iowa Wesleyan last week, moving her into third place on the school's career goals list.
  • David Flores, Eureka College (Men's Soccer) Flores recorded his first collegiate win in net for the Red Devils, making seven saves and finished with 16 saves in two games this week.
  • Sam Kersting, Webster University (Volleyball) Kersting had a standout week averaging 3.21 kills and 1.68 blocks per set. She scored a career high 25.5 points in a win over Principia finishing with 19 kills and eight total blocks.
  • Amanda Kiso, Westminster College (Volleyball) Kiso was nearly unstoppable hitting last week, hitting .645 in two matches. She finished the week with 21 kills and just one error in 31 attempts and added seven total blocks.
  • Kristin Montgomery, Webster University (Women's Soccer) Montgomery scored in each of her team's games this week including a two goal outing against Principia.
  • Alivaia Powers, Greenville College (Cross Country) Powers set a personal best time in her 6K race this past weekend, finishing with a time of 24:32.
  • Jamie Schollenbruch, Greenville College (Volleyball) Schollenbruch averaged 5.14 digs per set last week with a 23 dig performance against Spalding in helping her team remain undefeated in conference play.
  • Dee Dee Sliter, Spalding University (Women's Soccer) Sliter totaled three goals in two games last week including a two goal performance against Westminster.
  • Summer Switzer, Principia College (Volleyball) Switzer averaged 6.12 digs per set last week with a 29 dig outing against Spalding.
