AROUND THE SLIAC

Blackburn pulled off an upset over Westminster last week, defeating the defending SLIAC Champions 75-70. The Beavers came back from a 37-33 deficit at half to pick up their third conference win of the season. Shelby Smith led the way with a game high 23 points while Ciara Morgan chipped in with 16 points and Briana Rae added nine points and 14 rebounds.

The Eureka women's basketball team faces an important contest this weekend as they will host Spalding University. Eureka is currently 9-2 in the SLIAC while Spalding is 9-1. The winner of this game takes over the driver's seat for rights to host the SLIAC Tournament.

The Fontbonne women's team is still chasing Westminster for the final spot into the SLIAC Tournament. The Griffins are two games behind in the win column but have an advantage in that they have played two fewer games at this point.

Greenville handed Eureka just their second conference loss of the season last week, topping them 62-51. The Panthers held Eureka to just 22-percent shooting in the game while out rebounding them by 15. Emily Gundy led the way for Greenville with 16 points and eight rebounds.
The Tigers women's team is still chasing Spalding for the top spot in the SLIAC standings. The Tigers are 13-3 overall and 8-1 in conference play. They are behind by one game in the win column and face Spalding and Principia this weekend.
Despite winning two games last week the MacMurray men's team has not been able to open up a lead and take control in the standings. They remain tied with Spalding with a 10-1 conference record. The Highlanders are 14-4 overall this season, the most overall wins by any SLIAC team this season.
It's yet another week and yet again Kenny Sydness finds himself at the top of the conference scoring title. Syndess is averaging 18.9 points per game this season and has led the entire way this year after starting the season with 23 point and 42 point games on the opening weekend.

Brandon Goeing kept his hot hand rolling, as he put up another 20 point game in his only game last week; giving him three 20 point games in his last four contests. Goeing led Spalding to a 92-55 win over Principia by scoring a game high 23 points, on 8-of-12 shooting. He knocked down seven of his ten three point attempts and also handed out three assists.

The Webster women's team is sitting in strong position for the SLIAC Tournament. The Gorloks are 7-3 in the conference and sitting in the third spot for the tournament. They face Principia and MacMurray this weekend.
In their only outing of the week the Westminster men's team picked up a 67-52 win over Blackburn. The Blue Jays led from the start and jumped out to a 36-27 halftime lead. Four different Blue Jays reached double figures in scoring with Verdis Lee Jr. scoring a team high 13 points. Brandon Moore added 10 points and seven assists.
