AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn basketball teams will be looking to make a big stand over the next three weeks as they begin a season long six game home stand. The Beavers will play host to Eureka, Spalding, Webster, Westminster, MacMuray and Greenville over that stretch. Both of the women's teams conference wins this season came at home while the men will be seeking their first conference win of the year.

The Red Devils women's basketball team puts a four game winning streak on the line this week with games against Blackburn and Westminster. The Red Devils have won three of their last four games by double digits and sit in a tie for first-place in the SLIAC.

Did you know that the Fontbonne men's basketball team currently ranks first among SLIAC teams in free-throws made and free-throws attempted per game. The Griffins are averaging 16.5 free-throws made and 23.9 free-throw attempts per game this season.

Did you know that the Lady Panthers are the only women's team with a player ranking in the top five of each of the shooting percentage rankings? Missy Deal leads the conference in field goal percentage while Whitney Vitt is fourth in three-point percentage and Emily Gundy is second in free-throw percentage.
Iowa Wesleyan announced their Dean's List for the fall semester and placed 62 student-athletes on the list. These students maintained a grade-point average of 3.50 or above while also balancing their team in competing with their athletic team. For a full list of the Tigers on the Dean's List go HERE
The MacMurray women's basketball team won back to back games for the first time this season with a pair of wins last week. The Highlanders topped Greenville 63-59 for their second conference victory of the season and followed with a 62-37 non-conference win over Mount Mary.
Principia's Larry Patterson was this week's SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Patterson averaged 15.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.3 steals in three contests last week. His recorded back to back double-doubles with his top performance coming in a win over Eureka with 21 points, 14 rebounds and five assists.

Spalding's Jessica Guy is the SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week this week. Guy averaged 16.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in helping her team to a pair of conference wins. Guy notched 20 points in a win over Greenville and followed with 13 points and 12 rebounds against Fontbonne.

It has been quite a return for Webster men's basketball student-athlete Kevin Miller. After a three year absence Miller has returned to average 14.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. He ranks 8th in the conference in scoring and 2nd in rebounding. Miller is also 3rd in the conference in blocked shots with 14.
The Westminster women's basketball team is starting to make some noise. They had a season best four game winning streak snapped in a loss to Spalding earlier this week. But with the four wins the Blue Jays moved their conference record above .500 and are currently fifth in the SLIAC standings.
