AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn softball team split their 2014 conference opening double header against Spalding, falling 11- in game one but responding with a 4-3 win in game two. Amber Byrley worked out 10 hits to record the win while Aimee Kerley added to her league leading RBI total (10) with two more runs batted in.

The Eureka softball team is off to a solid start, going 5-3 in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Red Devils won their final two contests in the classic, defeating Rivier 4-3 and Cazenovia 14-5. They are set to open the home schedule, and SLIAC play, this weekend against Webster after their games against MacMurray were postponed.

The Fontbonne softball team continues their season opening road trip with five more games this week in Clermont, Fla. The Griffins have already played all 12 games this season on the road and are not scheduled to play their first home game of the season until March 25 against Principia.

After winning their first two games of the 2014 season the Greenville baseball team dropped all seven games last week in Florida during their spring break. The Panthers will have a chance to get back into the win column with games against Illinois College and Spalding later this week.
The Iowa Wesleyan sotball team is off to a 4-6 start this season after competing in the USCAA Invitational. Their games against Coe for this week have been postponed and they are set to return to action this weekend with games against Westminster and Principia.
The MacMurray baseball team took two of three games in their 2014 SLIAC opener against Principia. MacMurray won game one 11-9 behind a 5-for-5 performance by Derek Crouch, in which he added four runs batted in. They took game two 3-1 on the strength of the arm of Anthony Willeford who went 7.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits while striking out 14.
The Principia baseball team picked up their first conference win of the season with an 8-3 win over MacMurray in the final game of a three game series. The Panthers were led by Gavin Thomas' 3-for-5 game while Sawyer Grow went 8 innings, striking out seven, to pick up the win.

The Spalding baseball team jumped out to a fast start in conference play, sweeping Blackburn in a three game series. The Golden Eagles won 10-2, 20-10 and 4-3. They head to Tucson, Arizona this week to face Wisconsin-La Crosse, Macalester and Cal Lutheran before returning home this weekend to face Greenville in a SLIAC double header.

The Gorlok softball team is currently 4-6 on the season and are set to begin their SLIAC schedule this weekend with a road double header against Eureka. Gorlok infielder Rachel Franck is currently second in the conference in hitting with a .469 batting average.
The Blue Jays softball team has played just four games this season, going 1-3, after having a double header against Grinnell cancelled earlier this week. They are schedued for a busy week this week however as they are set to face Iowa Wesleyan, Blackbrun and Wartburg.
