AROUND THE SLIAC
The Blackburn baseball team recorded their first win of the 2014
season with a 12-2 victory in the final game of a three game series
against Westminster. The Beavers pounded out 12 hits with three
players recording multiple hits, led by Aaron Moody's 3-for-5
game. |
The Eureka baseball team will be looking to get into the win column for the first time this season as they are on the road against a pair of SLIAC teams. The Red Devils will face Greenville mid-week in a two game series and then head to Spalding for a three game weekend series. |
Fontbonne senior pitcher Jacob Becker etched his name into the Griffins record book with a no-hitter against Principia College. Becker worked seven innings, allowing no hits while striking out six. The only base runners against Becker came on a hit by pitch and three Griffin errors. Becker is the third player in school history to record a no-hitter, all occurring since the 2010 season. |
The Greenville softball team brings a four game winning
streak into action this weekend. The Panthers won their final two
games at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic and took both games of
their SLIAC opener against Spalding. The Panthers host Eureka and
Westminster this week. |
The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team picked up the program's first ever
wins in the SLIAC as they swept Principia in a three game series
last week. Iowa Wesleyan won 8-5, 8-6 and 10-0 and are back in
action this weekend with a game against MacMurray and a three game
series against Fontbonne. |
MacMurray softball head coach Lexy Determan notched her first
coaching wins in a double header sweep over MSOE last week. The
Highlanders won 3-2 and 7-1, their first wins of the 2014 season.
They return to action with scheduled games against Iowa Wesleyan
and Webster this weekend. |
The Principia softball team, at 3-5 on the season, dropped their
2014 SLIAC opener to Fontbonne. The Panthers return to action this
weekend with a double header against St. Louis College of
Pharmacy. |
Spalding's Kyle Jenkins earned SLIAC Player of the Week honors after placing in the top three in three different events at the J. Owen Huntsman Relays hosted by Wabash College. Jenkins took first in the shot put and followed with a second place finish in the hammer throw and a third place finish in the discus. |
The Gorlok women's track and field team swept SLIAC Player
of the Week honors as Lauren McClain and Jenny Howard took home the
weekly honors. McClain placed first in the shot put at the Rhodes
Invitational while Howard set conference highs this season in both
the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. |
Blue Jay Matt Borst picked up Player of the Week honors in Track
and Field after recording two first-place finishes at the
Culver-Stockton Open. Borst won the 3000-meter run and teamed up
for a first-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay. He also added a
