AROUND THE SLIAC

Blackburn College will host a Guiness World Record attempt this week when they participate in the world's longest soccer game. The goal is to help raise $100,000 for research on pediatric cancer at St. Louis Children's Hospital. To donate go to www.worldrecordsoccergame.com

The Eureka baseball team continued their recent surge, winning three games over a five game stretch last week. Eureka picked up a win over Westminster, 4-3, and swept a double header against MacMurray to improve to 4-6 in SLIAC play.

The Fontbonne baseball team had a six game winning streak snapped last week as they dropped three in a row. The Griffins found their way back into the win column however with a 4-3 win over Greenville. The Griffins are set to host Westminster in a mid-week doubleheader before facing Eureka in a three game series this weekend.

The Greenville softball team suffered their first two losses of the season last weekend, falling 9-1 and 7-2 to Fontbonne. The Lady Panthers will look to get back into onto the plus side as they have a busy week with games against MacMurray, Rose-Hulman and Webster.
The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team notched an impressive 8-6 win over Washington University-St. Louis this week, splitting a double header against the Bears. Iowa Wesleyan came from behind for the win, plating one run in the eighth and two more in the ninth as three different Tigers recorded two hits in the game.
It will be a busy week for the MacMurray softball team as they will play ten games in a six day stretch. The Highlanders face Greenville, Eureka and Spalding in conference double headers before taking on St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Sunday in a non-conference meeting. The Highlanders then return to SLIAC action on Monday against Blackburn.
Principia junior Sarah Litwiller was impressive in her showing at the Greenville Select Meet last weekend. Litwiller finished her 5,000-meter race in a time of 18:00.91, nearly 43-seconds faster than the next competitor. She earned SLIAC Women's Track and Field Player of the Week honors for her effort.

The Spalding baseball team has won five of their last six games and take a three game winning streak into this week's action. They will face Iowa Wesleyan in a mid-week double header before hosting MacMurray for a three game series this weekend.

The Webster baseball team extended their winning streak to 13 games and will put that streak on the line this weekend with a three game series against Greenville and another game against Illinois State. The Gorloks are currently ranked #3 in the latest D3baseball.com poll.
Westminster senior pitcher Brittany Lee added to her record breaking season last weekend as she picked up two more school records and tied a third. Lee is the program's all-time innings pitched leader as well as saves leader. At the plate she also became the school's career leader in sacrifice hits.
