AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn men's basketball team is led by a youth movement. The team features no seniors and currently their top two scorers are freshmen. Chris Davis leads the team at 15.6 points per game while Tommy Ulinski is second at 12.2 points per game.

Red Devil Women's Basketball senior Caty Eeten poured in 40 points in an 83-80 win over Westminster on Tuesday night. The 40 points are the second most by a SLIAC player in a conference game and is the second most point total in program history, behind only her career high 49 point game against Knox in 2011.

Fontbonne freshman Bryan DeGeare has been on a roll lately, recording a double-double in three of his last four games. Most recently DeGeare tallied 18 points and 14 rebounds in a 100-85 loss to Concordia. The 18 points are his second highest total while he established a new career high with the 14 rebound effort.

Greenville's Ron Smith is just one of three players in the SLIAC currently in the top 10 leaders of both scoring and rebounding. Smith is averaging 13.2 points per game (10th) and 9.1 rebounds per game (1st). He also ranks 10th in the league in shooting percentage at 51.6 percent.
The Iowa Wesleyan men's basketball team notched their program's first ever SLIAC win over the weekend with a 74-69 victory over Blackburn. Iowa Wesleyan placed five players in double figures in scoring, overcoming a 35-28 deficit at halftime. Ramon Taylor led Iowa Wesleyan with 15 points while Duane Lee added 14 points.
The MacMurray men's basketball team took on #14 ranked Augustana College last Saturday, falling 100-69. The Highlanders were unable to slow down the Augustana offense, which scored 58 points on 70-percent shooting in the first-half. Brady Slagle led MacMurray with 16 points, although he recorded just one point in the second-half.
Principia College was awarded to be host of the 2017 NCAA Division III National Championship. The newly re-designed course will feature an observation deck located on the center ridge of the course and allow for viewing of nearly the entire race course.

The Spalding women's basketball faced #1 ranked DePauw University over the weekend, falling 79-53. The Golden Eagles took an early 13-11 lead but a run by DePauw gave the top-ranked team a 42-27 lead at halftime. Kerstin Hayes led Spalding with 10 points while Jessica Guy finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Men's basketball junior guard Ahmad Smith led Webster with 26 points in an overtime loss to Eureka. Smith was 11-of-21 from the field and knocked down the game-tying shot at the buzzer in regulation to force overtime.
Westminster women's basketball senior Leigh Ann Lutz recently became the program's career leader in three-point field goals. Lutz surpassed the previous record of 194. Lutz has finished in the top five in the SLIAC of three-pointers made in each of her first three years. Finishing 4th as a freshman, 2nd as a sophomore and 1st as a junior.
