SLIAC Winter Canned Food Drive Totals Are In

The totals for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference winter canned food drives are in and have resulted in the collection of nearly 2,000 canned goods during the winter sport season. The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and its 10 member schools joined together this year to support their local community food shelters through a conference wide canned food drive competition.

The conference collected 1,953 canned goods this winter, an increase of over 400 canned goods from the fall drives. Greenville College collected the most cans during the winter drive with 681 cans and are the recipient of a pizza party for their SAAC group. MacMurray finished second in the drive with 410 cans while Blackburn was third with 291 cans. For the year Greenville leads all conference members with 766 cans collected. The top three schools currently are Greenville with 766, MacMurray with 710 and Principia with 616.

The SLIAC and members of each school's SAAC team will hold five canned food drives throughout the 2013-14 school year with all collections going to local food shelters. Cash donations are also accepted with every $1 counting as two cans of food.

The SLIAC and SAAC, the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, initiated the conference wide community service competition as a way to further develop citizenship among student-athletes and for fans to give back to their local community. The school that collects the most canned goods during each drive earn recognition by the SLIAC with the year's overall leader receiving a traveling trophy.
