Webster Announces Hall of Fame Class
Webster University Athletics announces three former Gorlok
athlete greats and a long-time department employee as the newest
members of its Hall of Fame. Angela Martinez (women's
soccer), Brett Mueller (baseball), Gail Vogt (softball), and Sue
McClintock (Office Manager) were voted to the class of 2014.
They will be inducted on February 8, 2014, at Grant
Gymnasium, in the campus University Center.
Angela Martinez, a 2003 graduate of Webster in English, Martinez
was an NSCAA All-Region choice in 2001 and 2002 for the women's
soccer team. In addition, she was an NSCAA All-Region Scholar
Team selection in 2002. Martinez was the SLIAC Newcomer of
the Year in 2001. She was a key contributor to a Webster
teams that went 14-0 as SLIAC champions
in both seasons she played, and compiled a 33-4-1 overall
record.
Brett Mueller, graduating in 2008 with a major in special
education, Mueller was an ABCA Third Team All-American, ABCA First
Team All-Region, and SLIAC First Team All-Conference selection that
year. A starter and reliever for the baseball Gorloks,
Mueller holds career records for lowest earned run average (2.36)
and highest win-loss percentage (.933) based on a 14-1 record.
Gail Vogt, a 2008 graduate in advertising/market communication,
Vogt was the SLIAC softball Player of the Year in 2007. She was a
SLIAC First Team selection that year, and was a Second Team choice
in both 2005 and 2006. In addition to being an outstanding
pitcher for the Gorloks, she was an excellent hitter as well.
Vogt holds Webster career pitching records for most innings
pitched and is second in strikeouts (324). She is also eighth
in wins (46) and earned run average (2.56). At the plate,
Vogt has the second highest career batting average (.404) and
on-base percentage (.491).
Sue McClintock, hired as the first Office Manager for Webster
Athletics in 1988, Sue served the department until her retirement
in 2005. McClintock served four athletic directors, including
fellow Hall of Famer, Harry Cargas who as AD in1988-89, hired her.
McClintock served numerous roles in the department during
that period, including being a mother figure for many of the
athletes throughout her career. Said current Webster golf coach
Andrew Belsky, "Sue was the 'go-to' person in the office, the
person who had all the answers and was always there to help."
The 2014 Hall of Fame Class will be inducted at halftime of the
Webster men's basketball game vs. MacMurray College, on February 8, at Grant
Gymnasium. The Hall of Fame was established to honor those
who reflect the Department's mission of success in the classroom,
community, and arena of competition. Former players, coaches, and
other individuals who made significant contributions to the
program, are eligible for selection.
