Fuhler Named MacMurray Athletic Director

Justin Fuhler, who has been MacMurray’s head baseball coach for the past two years, has been named Athletic Director of the College.

“I am excited to be able to have the opportunity to use my knowledge and passion for MacMurray athletics in this new role,” Fuhler said. “I expect to use the commitment and leadership learned through experiences in collegiate sports to aid the success of the entire MacMurray College Athletic Department.”

Fuhler has served as MacMurray’s head baseball coach since May 2013, coaching players, running the program and recruiting new scholar-athletes. He will continue as head coach through the 2015 season.

Under Fuhler’s direction, the baseball team roster increased by 20 percent last year, and the team won more games. During his two years at the helm, he led a fundraising effort that raised $30,000. He was the Highlander assistant baseball coach for two years before stepping up to the top spot.

In addition, Fuhler has served as the event staff coordinator for MacMurray Athletics, overseeing the student workers’ scheduling and duties, facility set up and has arranged for the hospitality extended officials of all the College’s athletic contest.

“Justin has distinguished himself at all the roles he’s held at MacMurray,” said Provost James Maxwell, who oversees the MacMurray Athletic Department. “He has proven himself an able organizer and enthusiastic leader,” continued Maxwell, who is also vice president for Academic Affairs and Student Life. “We expect that Justin’s energy and excitement will help MacMurray Athletics continue its upward trajectory.”

Fuhler brings to his new role more than a decade as a coach at the college, summer league, and high school levels. At the collegiate level, he coached at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, IL, and at Lake Land College in Mattoon, IL. Before joining the college ranks, Fuhler coached and taught history at high schools in Clifton and Effingham, both in Illinois.

During his time at MacMurray, Fuhler was also head coach of the Springfield (IL) Bulldogs, a summer travel team, and previous to that coached the Moosejaw Miller Express, a collegiate summer league team in Saskatchewan, Canada.

He earned his bachelor’s in history and secondary education from McKendree College in Lebanon, IL, and his master’s in educational leadership from Walden University in Baltimore.

He replaces Scott McClure as MacMurray Athletic Director, who tendered his resignation earlier this year to seek other opportunities.

“I am excited about aiding MacMurray Athletics reach its next level and continue the improvement we’ve seen in the College’s athletic programs,” Fuhler said. “I intend to keep the focus of MacMurray Athletics on the maturation and growth of our scholar-athletes and the wonderful work our team of coaches has achieved in recent years.”
