Pair of SLIAC Teams in NFCA All-Academic Team Top Ten

Iowa Wesleyan College and Fontbonne University finished in the top ten of the 2013-14 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-Academic team with a total of 37 SLIAC student-athletes earning All-America Scholar Athlete honors.

The Iowa Wesleyan College softball team finished second in NCAA Division III with a team grade-point average of 3.571 while Fontbonne University finished seventh with a team grade-point average of 3.520. Three other SLIAC institutions placed teams on the list with a gpa above 3.0 and included Webster University (3.434), Spalding University (3.325), and Principia College (3.242).

In addition several individual SLIAC student-athletes were recognized as NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes for maintaining a grade-point average of 3.5 or above. Webster University placed a conference best nine players on the team: Samantha Powers, Alexis Spriggs, Alison Stabenow, Kelley Bridgmon, Amber Sinamon, Alyssa Sapp, Rachel Franck, Taylor Gibbs, and Jessica Lewandowski. Iowa Wesleyan placed eight players on the list: Skyler Rodgers, Samantha Shepard, Kassandra Vazquez, Jessica Siggers, Sarah Voss, Caitlin O'Neill, Stephanie Tillman, Trisha Meierotto, Kaitlyn Dirth, and Ashley Stube. Fontbonne University also placed eight student-athletes on the Scholar All-American list: Morgan Baer, Shannon Fitzpatrick, Emily Smith, Cassandra Glixman, Alexis Stankovich, Danielle Glixman, Cara Hargate, and Jessie Pratt. Spalding University had eight players earn honors as well: Brooke Lamon, Shelby Kilgore, Alyssa McAfee, Sara Owens, Katy Flanagan, Paige French, Miranda Ladanyi, and Peyton French. Principia College had four players on the list: Samantha Bronkar, Kelsey Whitney, Victoria Cheatham, and Ashley Shoemake.

The NFCA Academic Awards program honors both collegiate and high school teams and individual student-athletes for their submitted team GPA's for the academic year.
