SLIAC Players of the Week - Jan. 26

This week's SLIAC Players of the Week are from Webster University, Aaron Griffin; and from Eureka College, Kelsey Shoemake.

SLIAC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Aaron Griffin, Webster University

Griffin, a senior forward from Farm Haven, Miss., stepped his game up to account for the loss of the Gorloks' leading scorer, Ahmad Smith. Griffin led his team in scoring and rebounding last week in helping them notch a pair of SLIAC wins. Against Blackburn Griffin finished with 17 points and nine rebounds, going 7-of-9 from the field. He followed with his fifth double-double of the season in a win over Westminster, registering 19 points and 13 rebounds. On the week Griffin averaged 18.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game while shooting 63-percent from the field and going 12-of-14 from the free-throw line.

 

SLIAC WOMEN"S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kelsey Shoemake, Eureka College

Shoemake, a senior forward from Groveland, Ill., earned Player of the Week honors after helping the Red Devils extend their winning streak to four games with a pair of wins last week. Shoemake was a force in her team's win over MacMurray, recording 28 points, on 10-of-16 shooting, with 20 rebounds and three steals. That game was memorable for other reasons as Shoemake became the 15th player in school history to reach the 1,000 point mark for her career. She followed with 19 points and 17 rebounds in a win over Fontbonne. On the week Shoemake averaged 23.5 points and 18.5 rebounds while shooting 53-percent from the field and going 13-of-14 from the free-throw line.

 

Other Notables:

  • Kasey Gatson, Westminster College (Women's Basketball) Gatson was a scoring machine in helping her team pick up a win over Webster, finishing with 32 points including three three-pointers.
  • Jared Greenlee, Fontbonne University (Men's Basketball) Greenlee notched 20 points, going 9-of-14 from the field, with 14 rebounds in a win over Eureka.
  • Kara Johnson, Principia College (Women's Basketball) Johnson recorded a pair of double-doubles last week; averaging 16.0 points and 9.7 rebounds in three games.
  • Larry Patterson, Principia College (Men's Basketball) Patterson poured in 31 points and added eight rebounds and seven assists in a contest against MacMurray.
  • Kayla Styles, Spalding University (Women's Basketball) Styles recorded a pair of double-doubles, averaging 17.5 points and 11.0 rebounds, while helping her team to two wins.
