SLIAC Players of the Week - Feb. 2

This week's SLIAC Players of the Week go to a pair of players that helped their teams remain in the title hunt for the SLIAC regular season championship. This week's winners are MacMurray College's Deavis Johnson and Iowa Wesleyan College's Rachel Williams.

SLIAC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Deavis Johnson, MacMurray College

Deavis Johnson, a junior from East St. Louis, Ill., helped the Highlanders take over sole possession of first place in the SLIAC standings in a 91-65 win over Webster last weekend. In his only game of the week Johnson recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Johnson was 7-of-10 from the field and added three assists, one steal, and one blocked shot. The Highlanders have now won eight consecutive games and are 9-2 in conference play.

 

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Rachel Williams, Iowa Wesleyan College

Rachel Williams, a junior from Phoenix, Ariz., helped the Tigers close the gap against conference leading Spalding when she led her team to an upset win over Spalding, handing the Golden Eagles their first conference loss of the season. Williams led all scorers in the game with 24 points, going 7-of-8 from the field, and added five assists and three steals. She followed with 16 points, eight assists, and six rebounds in a win over Blackburn two days later. On the week Williams averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game while shooting 77.8 percent from the field.

 

Other Notables:

  • Chris Davis, Blackburn College (Men's Basketball) Davis scored 26 points and added four assists in helping his team defeat Greenville for the first time since 2010.
  • Jessica Guy, Spalding University (Women's Basketball) Guy recorded a pair of double-doubles last week, giving her seven on the season, and averaged 14.3 points and 14.3 rebounds per game in three outings.
  • Mackenzie Haddox, Westminster College (Women's Basketball) Haddox filled up the stat line in her team's win over Greenville, finishing with 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
  • Kara Johnson, Principia College (Women's Basketball) Johnson put together back to back 20 point games including a 26 point effort against Westminster.
