SLIAC Players of the Week - March 23

This week's SLIAC Players of the Week are: Tanner Carter, Alyson Hahn, Anna Houston, Marissa Lewis, Tiffany Samsoe, Taylor Porter, Kyle Uhrich, Nate Wieland, and Haile Wilson.


SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Kyle Uhrich, Webster University

Uhrich, a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo., highlighted a Gorlok offense that scored 46 runs in just five games last week including three games with 10 or more runs. Uhrich hit .474 on the week with five home runs and 12 runs batted in while scoring eight runs. He picked up a hit in all five games including three multi-hit games and drove in three runs on four separate occasions. Twice last week he hit two home runs in a game, against Iowa Wesleyan and Illinois Wesleyan, and he finished the week with a 1.263 slugging percentage while striking out just once.

 

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Tanner Carter, Fontbonne University

Carter, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., wasted no time in getting into mid-season form picking up two wins and holding opponents to just six hits. Carter started the week with a two hit effort against Illinois College in which he went six innings and allowed one unearned run while striking eight. He followed with a complete game shutout against Eureka, going seven innings and allowing four hits while once more striking out eight batters. Just as impressive Carter walked just one batter in his 13 innings this week, while striking out a total of 16 hitters.

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Tiffany Samsoe, Greenville College

Samsoe, a sophomore from Norco, Calif., put together an impressive week in helping the Panthers pick up four wins. Samsoe hit .526 over seven games and finished with three home runs and 10 runs batted in with seven runs scored. She picked up a hit in six of the games including five multi-hit contests. She was 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI in a 7-5 win over Wisconsin-Stevens Point. For the week she had a .556 on-base percentage and a 1.040 slugging percentage with 13 hits in 25 at bats.

 

 

SLIAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Alyson Hahn, Westminster College

Hahn, a sophomore from O'Fallon, Mo., appeared in three games last week for the Blue Jays picking up a win and a save. Hahn won game one of a double header against Principia going five innings and allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out seven. She entered in game two of the double header to pitch the final three innings and record the save, allowing one run while striking out five. Hahn also made a start against Coe and took the loss despite going seven innings and allowing just one run. On the week Hahn finished with a 1.40 earned-run average with 17 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched while allowing just 10 hits.

 

SLIAC MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nate Wieland, Greenville College

Wieland, a freshman from Mascoutah, Ill., had a busy and impressive week. Wieland won eight of ten total matches, going 4-1 in both singles and doubles. He started out with a come from behind win over Messiah at #1 singles. Wieland pulled out another come from behind win at #2 singles against Thomas and closed out with wins against Frostburg State and North Central. In addition Wieland added four wins at #2 doubles with his partner Demetrius Bush. 

 

 

SLIAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Marissa Lewis, Webster University

Lewis, a senior from Owasso, Okla., nearly had a perfect week as she won all four of her matches, dropping just one game. Lewis won 6-0, 6-0 over Blackburn at #1 singles and continued with an 8-0 victory at #1 doubles with partner Kaylen Kress. Lewis then won 6-0, 6-1 against St. Francis in singles play and picked up an 8-0 win in doubles action. On the season Lewis is 20-7 overall.

 

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Field) Kyle Jenkins, Spalding University

Jenkins, a senior from Louisville, Ky., is off to another strong start this season as he took first place in three events at the Pioneer Invitational. Jenkins grabbed first in shot put with a distance of 16.62 meters, good of second in the nation. He also threw 47.60 meters in the discus, good for fourth in the nation, and recorded a distance of 52.48 meters in the hammer throw, currently ranking 5th in the nation.

 

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Track) Haile Wilson, Webster University

Wilson, a freshman from Eureka, Mo., is the SLIAC Track Player of the Week after making his collegiate racing debut last weekend at the Wash U Mini. Wilson placed in the top three in two events and helped the Gorloks place second at the meet. Wilson finished 3rd in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.31 and followed with a second place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.66.

SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Field) Anna Houston, Westminster College

Houston, a freshman from Union, Mo, made the most of her collegiate debut, with three top three finishes and four program records. Houston took first place in the triple jump with a distance of 10.36 meters. She followed with a second place finish in the high jump, at 1.34 meters, and a third place finish in the long jump, 5.01 meters. In addition Houston competed in the 100-meter hurdles in the track portion, finishing fourth, and setting a fourth event record for the Blue Jays.

 


SLIAC WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
(Track) Taylor Porter, Webster University

Porter, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., finished in the top three in a pair of events last weekend at the Wash U Mini including a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 12.81 seconds. She placed third in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 26.68 seconds. Porter helped her team to a second place finish in the overall rankings.

 

 

Other Notables:

  • Kelci Flener, Spalding University (Softball) Flener recorded 10 strikeouts in just five innings in a win over MacMurray, also allowing just one hit.
  • Ben Greenway, Fontbonne University (Baseball) Greenway was 4-for-4 with a grand slam in a win over Illinois College.
  • Geoffrey Hibbs, Principia College (Track and Field) Hibbs took first place in the Javelin Throw at the Wash U Mini with a distance of 58.14 meters, besting his previous personal best by seven meters, and ranking him fifth in the nation.
  • A.C. Long, Westminster College (Baseball) Long went 3-for-3 with four RBI in a win over Kalamazoo.
  • Becca Mouser, Spalding University (Softball) Mouser helped the Golden Eagles to four conference wins last week, hitting .394 with eight RBI.
  • Lyssa Winslow, Principia College (Track and Field) Winslow finished first in both the shot put and hammer throw last weekend, competing in the Wash U Mini.
