SLIAC Players of the Week - Nov. 3

The falls final selection of SLIAC Players of the Week was highlighted by several standout performances and moments that helped secure their team's place in post-season play. This week's winners are Krista Beyer, Jessica Davis, Kersten McDonough, Ian McReynolds, Kristin Montgomery, Mike Wells.

MEN'S SOCCER (OFFENSIVE)
Mike Wells, Webster University

Wells, a senior from Florissant, Mo., scored the only goals of the week for the Gorloks as they recorded a pair of conference wins and finished an undefeated SLIAC season. Wells tallied the game winning goal on a penalty kick in a 1-0 win over Greenville just 11-minutes into the contest. Later in the week he added the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Fontbonne, scoring early in the second-half on a free kick from just outside the box.

 

MEN'S SOCCER (DEFENSIVE)
Ian McReynolds, Webster University

McReynolds, a senior from Florissant, Mo., helped the Gorloks record a pair of shutouts in their regular season finales, winning each game 1-0. McReynolds and the Gorloks kept Greenville off the board with McReynolds then adding two saves in a shutout of Fontbonne four days later. With the shutouts McReynolds extended his current scoreless streak in net to 459-minutes.

 

 

WOMEN'S SOCCER (OFFENSIVE)
Kristin Montgomery, Webster University

Montgomery, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., was key in helping the Gorloks close out the regular season with an undefeated conference mark. Montgomery scored a goal in each of her team's two games on the week. She helped the Gorloks extend their lead in a 3-0 win over Greenville and then netted the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win over Fontbonne.

 

 

WOMEN'S SOCCER (DEFENSIVE)
Jessica Davis, Webster University

Davis, a senior from Belleville, Ill., recorded two more shutouts as her team won 3-0 over Greenville and 2-0 over Fontbonne. Davis recorded one save in her win against Greenville and added two saves in the win over Fontbonne. She extends her scoreless streak in net to 405-minutes and helped the Gorloks wrap up a perfect record in SLIAC play.

 

VOLLEYBALL (OFFENSIVE)
Kersten McDonough, Fontbonne University

McDonough, a sophomore from Pacific, Mo., recorded a career high 27 kills in five set thriller against Principia. McDonough had 27 kills on 68 attempts, finishing with over half of her team's kills in the match. She averaged 5.4 kills per set and hit .265 in the match. This is the second time this season she has been honored as the Player of the Week.

 

 

VOLLEYBALL (DEFENSIVE)
Krista Beyer, Fontbonne University

Beyer, a senior from Collierville, Tenn., is this week's SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. Beyer made her presence known on the court against Principia, finishing the five set match with 35 digs. Her 35 digs are a season high. Beyer averaged 7.0 digs per set.

 

 

 

Other Notables:

  • Katelyn Cosgrove, Spalding University (Volleyball) Cosgrove recorded 15 digs and five blocks in an upset win of Greenville.
  • Jessica Diehl, Spalding University (Volleyball) Diehl was nearly unstoppable in her team's three matches last week, hitting .596 and recording two double digit kill matches.
  • Ellen Lueking, Greenville College (Volleyball) Lueking ran her team's offense to a tee this week, averaging 11.12 assists per set and finishing the week with 89 assists including a 49 assist performance against Webster.
  • Tess Rountree, Principia College (Volleyball) Rountree recorded back to back 20 dig outings last week, averaging 5.75 digs per set. 
  • Rachel Nelson, Webster University (Volleyball) Nelson finished the week with 12 total blocks including eight in a match against Greenville.
