AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn men's basketball team snapped a five game losing streak in fashion, winning an overtime contest against Principia last weekend. Blackburn was led by Chris Davis' 22 points while Andre Strayhorn added 11 points off the bench. Blackburn forced 19 turnovers and knocked down 12 three's in the game.

The Eureka men's basketball team has won back to back game for the first time this season and won three of their last four games. The Red Devils are coming off wins over Westminster and Principia and will face Lincoln Christian in a non-conference game on Thursday before returning to SLIAC action on Saturday when they host Blackburn.

Fontbonne University will once again hold a basketball alumni event. This year's event will be January 31, 2015 in the Dunham Center. The event will coincide with the 2014 Fontbonne Athletics Hall of Fame Induction of 2009 graduate Brian Fogerty. The event is open to the public and beings at 11 a.m. For more information click HERE

The Greenville women's basketball team broke their three game losing streak with a 64-44 road win over Webster last weekend. Greenville placed three players in double figures in scoring with Laura Goodnight leading the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Panthers held Webster to just 27-percent shooting from the field and forced 14 turnovers.

The Iowa Wesleyan women's basketball team suffered their first conference loss of the year in a 59-35 loss at Spalding last weekend. The Tigers were held to just 23-percent shooting in the game. It marked just the second loss in conference play in 25 conference games in the two years since Iowa Wesleyan joined the SLIAC. The Tigers will look to shake off the loss as they host Westminster on Wednesday before traveling to Principia on Saturday.

The MacMurray women's basketball team picked up a thrilling 75-70 double overtime win over Fontbonne last weekend. The Highlanders came back from a four point half-time deficit with Kaydee Carmody sending the game into overtime by knocking down a free-throw with 10-seconds left in regulation. Carmody finished the game with 22 points, seven rebounds, and six assists to improve her team's record to 2-4 in the SLIAC>

Principia sophomore Justin Ball was named this week's SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Ball averaged 22.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 58-percent from the field. Ball helped his team to their first conference win of the year with 19 points, five rebounds and four assists against Westminster. He followed with 26 points, nine rebounds, and five assists against Blackburn.

Spalding senior Jessica Guy earned SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors by helping her team go 3-0 on the week. Guy averaged 13.7 points, 15.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in the three outings. Her highlights included 19 points and 23 rebounds in a win over Fontbonne and 15 points and 18 rebounds against Blackburn.

The Webster men's basketball team snapped their two game losing streak with a win over Greenville, handing the Panthers their first conference loss of the year. The Gorloks are now 4-2 in the SLIAC and are led by senior guard Ahmad Smith. Smith is currently averaging 17.3 points per game this season, tops in the conference.
Westminster junior Mackenzie Haddox had a memorable performance on the court last weekend, recording a triple-double in her team's win over Eureka. Haddox finished the game with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists as the Blue Jays won 75-41 at home over the Red Devils.
