Webster Knocks off #11 Wartburg (September 6, 2014
Facing the #11 nationally ranked NCAA III team, the Webster University men's soccer team  came away victorious with a 3-2 win in double overtime against Wartburg College.  Mike Wells scored the game winner for the Gorloks with just 3:09 remaining in the contest.....MORE

AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn men's and women's soccer teams will open up SLIAC soccer action this year when they host MacMurray College on Thursday. The women's game is set for a 3 p.m. start will the men kick at 5 p.m. The Blackburn women topped MacMurray 2-0 in last year's meeting while the Blackburn men won 2-1.

The Eureka men's golf team opened the fall season with a 9th place finish at the Loras College Invitational. The Red Devils were led by Tyler Ramsey with an 85, tying for 28th individually in the tournament. The Red Devils concluded the tournament with a team score of 364.

The Fontbonne University women's soccer team continued their hot start to the 2014 season, winning a pair of games over the weekend to push their record to 4-0 overall. The Griffins have recorded three consecutive shutouts and out scored their opponents 9-1 this season.

Thomas Crown, senior goal keeper for the Panthers men's soccer team, was named the SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. Crown allowed just two goals in two games last week while recording 17 saves. He notched 13 saves in a win over Illinois College and added four more saves against Rose-Hulman.
The Iowa Wesleyan women's soccer team picked up their first points of the season when they tied Rockford 2-2. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Rachyl Williams in the first-half. Rockford tied it up early in the second and just two minutes later took the lead. The Tigers evened it up on a Savanna Blair goal with just five-seconds left in regulation. Neither team was able to break through in the overtime periods.
This is a busy week for the MacMurray volleyball squad as they will play four matches over the next four days. The Highlanders will play a pair of double headers as they take on Augustana and Knox on Wednesday night in Galesburg, Illinois. MacMurray then travels to Greenville, Illinois on Saturday where they will square off against Westminster and Greenville.
The Principia men's tennis team had a solid outing in the fall tournament at St. Louis College of Pharmacy, garnering three trophies. Panthers Joey Sander and Jason Wissman won A Flight doubles while Wissman was runner up in A Flight singles and Andrew Kratz won B Flight of the back draw.

The Spalding men's golf team took second place in the competitive Rosencrans-Mauer Invite in Springfield, Ohio. The tournament field featured numerous ranked teams with Spalding placing ahead of the 9th, 27th, 40th and 43rd ranked teams. The Golden Eagles shot a team score of 601, finishing behind only #5 Wittenberg with a 590.

Webster picked up a pair of SLIAC Player of the Week awards last week as Jessica Davis, goal keeper on the women's soccer team, and Jason Hickson, from men's cross country, took home top honors. Davis extended her scoreless streak 253 minutes while Hickson finished first in the Hanover Invitational becoming just the third Gorlok in program history to win a meet.
The Westminster volleyball team notched their first two wins of the year this week defeating Mount St. Joseph and Robert Morris-Springfield. The Blue Jays have been led by returning All-Conference performer Amanda Kiso. Kiso leads the conference in hitting percentage this season with a .404 mark and in solo blocks with 13.
