AROUND THE SLIAC

The Blackburn women's soccer team went 2-1 last week with wins over MacMurray and Rockford. Blackburn's Meghan Sykora was named SLIAC Player of the Week after recording a goal and assist against MacMurray and notching a hat trick in her team's win over Rockford.

Eureka College announced their 2014 Hall of Fame class. The class includes James Brown, football/track and field (2002), Andy Craig, football/baseball (2005), Nicole Fisher Zasada, women's basketball (2008), Andy Swenson, football (2006), and Pat Wake, football/baseball/golf (1992).

The Fontbonne Cross Country teams had a strong 2014 debut, competing in the SIUE Cross Country Challenge. Junior Olivia Beggs finished 12th overall, finishing with a time of 20:49. On the men's side Justin Horneker placed 19th overall with a time of 29:50.

The Greenville Panthers volleyball team squared off against power Washington University-St. Louis. The Panthers fell 25-18, 25-18, and 25-20 to the #7 ranked Bears. Nicole Schaeffer led the Panthers with seven kills while Jamie Schollenbruch finished with 18 digs.
The Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team is currently tied for first in the SLIAC with a 2-0 conference mark. After dropping their first seven matches the Tigers have won each of their last two outings; wins over Blackburn and Fontbonne. Tiger setter Cierra Howard is currently second in the league in digs, averaging 6.2 per set.
The MacMurray women's soccer team snapped a nine game losing streak with a 4-0 win over Rockford University. The Highlanders were led by Tiffany Hazelwonder who netted a hat trick in the win. The win is Bill Koeppen's first as Highlander head coach of the women's program.
The Principia cross country teams entered the Les Duke Invitational in Iowa this past weekend, extending their course length as the season progresses. The men's team was led by Nate Richards who finished 26th with a time of 27:09. The women's team was paced by Shontee Pant, who finished in a time of 25:39.

The Spalding men's soccer team went 1-1 last week, with a 2-0 win over Anderson but had their two game winning streak broke in a 2-1 loss to Wabash. Aden Abdirahman notched a goal in each of the Golden Eagles games.

Webster junior middle hitter Rachel Nelson was named the SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after notching double digits in total blocks in her team's only match last week. Nelson recorded three solo and eight block assists in the Gorloks 3-1 win over Illinois Wesleyan. It marked the first time a SLIAC player recorded double digits in total blocks since early in the 2013 season.
Blue Jay sophomore Drew Cook was named the SLIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after picking up a goal in each of his team's games last week. Cook netted the Blue Jays only goal in a loss to Columbia and helped Westminster into the win column with a game winner against Millikin.
