AROUND THE SLIAC

Blackburn's Nicole Kelly took home her second consecutive SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after helping her team gain a 1-1 tie against Greenville last week. Kelly made 27 saves in the contest, her second straight 20-plus save game.

The Eureka women's basketball team was picked to finish third in the SLIAC by the D3 News preseason preview issue. The Red Devils finished last year with a 17-9 overall record and were third in the SLIAC standings with a 13-5 record. They advanced to the SLIAC Tournament last year for the third consecutive season.

Fontbonne will host their annual Griffin Gala on November 12th. It is a chance for Fontbonne alumni to reconnect with past classmates and teammates. Current Griffin coaches and students will also be present as will new University President Dr. J. Michael Pressimone. Admission is just $10. For more information call 314-889-1444.

The Greenville men's soccer team swept weekly conference honors as Jacob Jones was named the SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week and teammate Thomas Crown picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors. Jones netted two timely goals as he helped the Panthers pick up a pair of wins. Crown meanwhile was strong in net, finishing the week with a .900 save percentage including one shutout.
The Iowa Wesleyan women's basketball team was tabbed as SLIAC Preseason favorites by the D3 News preseason preview issue. The Tigers, who finished last year with a 22-3 overall record, but were ineligible for postseason play due to transition into the conference, brings back three starters including last year's SLIAC Player of the Year Karla Vietinghoff.
MacMurray senior setter Hollie Schultz was named the MacMurray Highlander Student-Athlete of the Week last week. Schultz finished with 14 digs and 23 assists in a win over Wesleyan and followed with 14 more digs in a match against Spalding.
The Principia cross country programs had a standout week last week and took home conference weekly honors. Nate Richards was named SLIAC Men's Cross Country Player of the Week after a second place finish in the Cowbell Classic. Sarah Litwiller took home her second straight Women's weekly honor after also placing second at the meet.

The Spalding volleyball team went 5-0 last week and have quickly worked their way up the SLIAC standings with a 7-4 record. The Golden Eagles are now 10-14 overall after wins over Franklin, Principia, Central Christian, Blackburn, and MacMurray.

The Webster men's soccer team sits atop the SLIAC standings with a perfect 4-0 conference record. The Gorloks kept their undefeated record intact with a 4-0 win over MacMurray earlier this week. Webster has now won four straight games and lead the conference in scoring with 44 goals.
The men's soccer team has found their stride having won three straight conference games, propelling them to second in the SLIAC standings. After a three game losing streak and dropping five of six games Westminster has defeated Blackburn, Greenville, and Eureka.
