The Race Is On For SLIAC All-Sports Trophy

The race is on for the 2015-16 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Sports Trophy. Four schools are within ten points of each other as the school year enters the spring competition season with Greenville College leading the way. The All-Sports Trophy is awarded to the conference school with the most overall success in conference sponsored sports.

Greenville currently leads the race for the All-Sports Trophy with 62.5 total points through the fall and winter seasons. Greenville has had six of their seven athletic teams finish no lower than second place with the volleyball team capturing a first-place finish.

Westminster College is in second place with 58.5 points, thanks in large part to regular season championships by the Blue Jays men's soccer team and women's basketball team. Spalding is in third place currently with 54.5 points after their men's and women's cross country teams swept the SLIAC Championship this past fall. Webster University sits in fourth with 52.5 total points, after the Gorlok women's soccer team captured the regular season title this year.

Webster has won 11 consecutive SLIAC All-Sports Trophies and 15 overall. Only one previous year has the conference ever had even two schools finish within ten points of each of other. To view the full standings for the 2015-16 SLIAC All-Sports Trophy click HERE

The SLIAC All-Sports Championship Trophy is determined by awarding points based on each schools finish in the Conference’s 12 sports, earning ten points for a first-place finish, nine points for a second-place finish, etc.  Teams finishing tied split the points for the tied spot and the spot(s) immediately following (two teams finishing tied for third receives 7.5 points). In 2010 the SLIAC All-Sports Trophy guidelines were changed to be determined by total points, rather than a points average. The change was made to further encourage the NCAA Division III philosophy of broad-based athletics programs.
