Game of the Week - Cross Country Teams at Illinois College Invitational

This week's SLIAC Game of the Week features four SLIAC Cross Country programs battling among the field in the Illinois College Invitational.

At a Glance
Blackburn College, Fontbonne University, Principia College, and Westminster College will be among the programs competing in the field at the Illinois College Invitational this Saturday in Jacksonville, Ill. The race will be held at Nichols Park Golf Course with the women's 6K race set to start at 11 a.m. and the men's 8K race set for a 12 p.m. start.

About Blackburn
The Blackburn cross country teams have competed in four meets this fall. The men's team has been led by Timothy Lacy this fall, placing first on the team in three events. Lacy ran a season best time of 29:17 in his last outing, the Cowbell Classic. Nathan Speckhart captured a top team finish as well. On the women's side the Beavers' Catherine Young has three consecutive top team finishes including a best of 31:44 in her last outing. Makayla Grove led the Beavers in the first race of the season back in early September.

About Fontbonne
Fontbonne has had a light schedule this fall and have been led by Olivia Beggs and Christopher Brown. Beggs has three top team finishes this fall while Brown has a pair of top team finishes. Brown completed his last race, the 8K course in the Greater Louisville Classic, in a time of 29:53. This will be the final tune-up for the Griffins teams before they compete in the SLIAC Cross Country Championship on October 31.

About Principia
Shane Witters-Hicks has dominated the Panthers team results this fall, capturing four top team finishes. Witters-Hicks is coming off a time of 26:58 at the 8K Cowbell Classic, his first 8K race of the season. His personal best time of 25:42 came in the 6K race at the Wisconsin Lutheran meet. On the women's side Shontee Pant and Kyla Pelletier have traded off top finishes with Pant taking home three top team finishes and Pelletier adding a pair of top finishes. Pant is coming off a season best time of 25:14 last week.

About Westminster
The Westminster cross country teams have had a busy fall, competing in five events already this fall before this weekend's meet and then the SLIAC Cross Country Championship. The Blue Jays women's team has been carried by Brier Skogsberg, who captured four top team finishes while Taylor Howard took the honors in the SLU Invite. On the men's side Jesse Edwards has had a succesful while Zach Matthiesen is coming off his best race of the season, finishing the 8K Louisville Classic with a time of 26:11.
