This week's SLIAC Game of the Week will feature two teams in the middle of the SLIAC Volleyball Postseason race with Westminster College facing Spalding University.

Both teams enter the match fighting for postseason position with Westminster currently one game out of first place in the standings and Spalding currently one game out of the final playoff spot. About Spalding
Spalding enters the match 10-15 overall and 10-6 in the SLIAC. The Golden Eagles will be playing just their sixth home match of the season, holding a 3-2 record thus far. Spalding is coming off a 3-1 win over MacMurray and will be looking for their first back-to-back wins since late September when they won three in a row.

Spalding ranks first in the conference in hitting percentage with a .219 mark including hitting .255 during conference play. They average 10.98 kills per set and are first in total blocks with 176 this season. Victoria Heitzman, a junior, leads the team at 2.89 kills per set while junior Jessica Diehl is hitting .364 and averaging 2.66 kills per set. Katelyn Cosgrove runs the offense, averaging 10.25 assists per set, while Diehl and junior Erin Downs have combined for 155 blocks.

About Westminster
Westminster starts the week 17-5 overall and 13-2 in conference action. They will host #1 ranked Washington-St. Louis on Tuesday night before embarking on their weekend road trip. Westminster is on an 11 match winning streak and are coming off three consecutive sweeps that include wins over Fontbonne, Greenville, and Iowa Wesleyan.

The Blue Jays are hitting .200 as a team, third best in the conference, and average a conference high 12.05 kills per set. They also lead the conference in service aces with 171 this season. The Blue Jays balanced attack features four players averaging at least 2.0 kills per set. Hannah Marshall leads the way at 3.52 kills per set while Lexi Collier, Amanda Kiso, and Nikki Testerman round out the attack. In addition Kiso leads the team with 53 total blocks while Kayla Reeg is averaging 10.11 assists per set.

  • Spalding leads the all-time series 7-5 against Westminster.
  • The series has been one of streaks with Spalding winning the first six meetings, then Westminster winning five straight, before Spalding took their last meeting in 2014.
  • In addition to facing Spalding this weekend, Westminster will play Hanover on Friday night and Transylvania on Saturday afternoon.
