SLIAC Baseball Players of the Week - Feb. 22

This week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week are: Nick Cessna, from Westminster College; and Johnny Lord, from Webster University.

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
NICK CESSNA - WESTMINSTER COLLEGE

Nick Cessna is the first SLIAC/Diamond Sports Hitter of the Week for the 2016 season after starting the year with three multi-hit games during his team's opening series. Cessna hit .538 on the week with seven hits in three games including two home runs and four runs batted in. Cessna started the season by going 3-for-3 with a double and run batted in in his team's win over Ozarks. He followed with back to back 2-for-5 games, hitting a home run in each contest. On the week Cessna finished with a .571 on-base percentage and a 1.077 slugging percentage. He added one stolen base and scored five runs in the three games.

 

SLIAC/DIAMOND SPORTS BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
JOHNNY LORD - WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Johnny Lord, a junior pitcher from Webster University, is the SLIAC/Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week after guiding his team to an early season win over a nationally ranked foe. Lord took the ball in his team's start against #7 ranked Rhodes; going six innings and striking out five. He limited Rhodes to just six hits and three runs while allowing just one walk.

Other Notables:

  • Deion Hughes, Westminster College - Hughes threw a complete game in his team's win over Ozarks, striking out five, and becoming his program's all-time wins leader.
  • Jake Milosch, Webster University - Milosch went 3-for-4 with one home and and three runs batted in while helping his team to a 5-4 win over #7 ranked Rhodes College.
